kirby_blog-submission_joie-photographie_seniorologie001Shooting both studio shots and on-loctation shots can give a photographer a wide variety of options and a client a lot of variety in their photos.  Monique Montoya of Joie Photographie said that what started out as a prom dress session turned into a full on session with both indoor and outdoor photos.

“After talking to her mom, we decided to do a few studio shots, but also shooting on location to fully capture Kirby’s personality and style,” said Monique.

Check out this fun and bright session and read what else Monique had to share about it.  Thanks for sharing your work with Seniorologie Monique!

What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?
Our inspiration for Kirby’s shoot came from her personal style. We loved everything about her, from her spunky hair cut down to the retro truck she drives!

Where did this photo shoot take place?
The session took place in downtown Houston, Texas

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?
Of course! All our seniors are invited to our studio for a planning meeting. It helps us better understand who they are and what direction we should take their session to make it unique to them. We ask specific questions in hopes of revealing fun facts that can hopefully be used for their session, like Kirby’s retro truck!

What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?
Canon 5D Mark II
Canon 5D Mark III
Canon 70-200mm
Canon 50mm

What time of day were these taken?
5:30p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
We use Lightroom for the basic edits and then moved them in to CS6 where we used adjustment layers to finish off the images.

What is your favorite thing about this session?
Our favorite thing about this session was her personal style! And the challenge of not only making her happy with her images, but her dad too!

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
We wanted this session to convey Kirby’s unique style and that we were able to tailor our sessions to fit that style.

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
Don’t be afraid to be spontaneous and take advantage of opportunity! While we were shooting the friendliest and most adorable poodle walked past us. Kirby immediately connected with him and we saw the opportunity for a fun image! So we kindly asked the owner if we could borrow her canine companion for just a few shots. we got a great shot, a fun memory, and everyone was happy to be apart of it.
