Transitioning from one genre to another takes dedication and practice.  But if you can marry the two genres together, you can really show your talent and attract the right clientele.

Keala of Keala Jarvis Photography in Salt Lake City, Utah said, “As some who primarily photographs weddings but is dying to get into the senior market, I wanted to marry both of those worlds together by doing a dark glammed up senior session.”

I think she did a wonderful job with this beautiful photo shoot below!  Check it out and read what Keala had to share!  Thanks for sharing your work with Seniorologie Keala!!

What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?
I wanted to combine some harder or non-traditional elements but still create something that seniors could realistically do. The location was a big deal in setting the tone, the red rock of The Valley of Fire really provided the perfect non-traditional look. Shiley, who is a senior in Moapa Valley has these crazy beautiful eyes and naturally curly hair that paired so well with the a modest black lace dressed. The dress added a glammed up look but wasn’t as flashy as a prom dress, and we also paired it down with some accessories like the leather jacket. Then to add a hobby (which I love with senior sessions) to keep it with our look we got a nice old motorcycle.

Where did this photo shoot take place?
These were photographed in The Valley of Fire in Overton, Nevada

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?
Yes I collaborated with Oil & Blood who provided the motorcycle.
Eat.Sleep. Beauty for the hair & make-up
Basic Invite for the grad announcements

What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?
Canon 5d Mark III with a Sigma 50mm Art Series

What time of day were these taken?
Between 1-3pm

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
Mastin Labs & VSCO presets

What is your favorite thing about this session?
My favorite thing about this session was to create something new for senior girls to be inspired by for their sessions. Senior photos to me are a girl’s model moment and I really feel that this session reflects that.

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
Artistic & Natural

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
Always keep your seniors moving. It helps break away from stiff photos.
