When your family owns an apple orchard, you know you can create a beautiful senior session surrounded by trees.  And that is exactly what photographer Meg Shearer did for this session below!

“Ever since I started my business a few years ago, I knew I wanted to do something fun with seniors.  About two months ago I was thinking how beautiful the trees would be at my family’s orchard, Cider Hill Family Orchard,” said Meg.  “I thought the blossoms would be perfect for beautiful senior photos!”

What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?

Ever since I started my business a few years ago I knew I wanted to do something fun with seniors. About two months ago I was thinking how beautiful the trees would be at my families orchard, Cider Hill Family Orchard. I thought the blossoms would be a perfect for beautiful senior photos. I also really wanted to play with Holi powder. Which is what is used for color runs. It turned out great. We had 8 models who loved getting their hair and makeup done for this!

Where did this photo shoot take place?

At my families orchard in Kansas City, KS – Cider Hill Family Orchard

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?

I collaborated with all of the senior models to make sure we had the right outfits and what I had in mind for the shoot. We ended up doing 3 outfits. One was just a white dress. It really brought out the color of the flower crowns we had made and I loved the simplicity of the white dresses. The second was a spring colored dress. The third was just anything white for the powder fight, it would show best on white!

What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?

Nikon D5300

Nikkor 35mm 1.8

Reflector

What time of day were these taken?

We started at 3pm and shot until 7:30pm

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?

I really wanted the photos to be bright and sharp. I used a matte preset that I created on most of the photos. I really liked the matte look on these.

What is your favorite thing about this session?

Gosh it’s so hard to pick! Everything was beautiful! But my favorite thing has to be the powder fight. It was a blast playing with it! I got to capture genuine laughter and smiles.

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?

I want this to show that I love to have fun, I love color and I can really put together a beautiful session for my seniors.

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?

You really have to work with them to make them comfortable. Talk to them about their hobbies, plans after high school and anything else really! That will help loosen them up and it will totally show in the photos!
