Summer is the perfect inspiration for a photo shoot! So many fun things about summer can be incorporated into a photo shoot and a summer shoot is the perfect thing to give your reps before they head off to college.
In this fun photo shoot below, photographer Wendy Childress of Wendy Childress Photography said she wanted something that represented the carefree days of summer. “I wanted something fun to work on with my senior model team before they left for college. I imagined sun-filled images with laughter and girl friendships,” said Wendy. “I came up with the American Summer theme after weeks of trying to put words to my vision!”
Check out this fun, American Summer photo shoot below and read what else Wendy had to say about it! Thanks for sharing your work with Seniorologie Wendy!
My inspiration for this session was the carefree sun filled days of summer. I wanted something fun to work on with my senior model team before they left for college. I imagined sun filled images with laughter and girl friendships. Once I had the van to work with, the session evolved from there. I came up with the American Summer theme after weeks of trying to put words to my vision. I wanted all american style, fun, sun filled summertime images.
Where did this photo shoot take place?
The photo shoot took place in an empty field in Carlsbad, Californian where the sunlight is beautiful in the afternoon!
Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?
I worked with my senior team to come up with clothing choices. I explained my vision to them and asked them to collect clothing items they thought would coordinate with the style and color scheme.

I shoot with a Nikon D750 and a D7000. I used a Nikon 50mm 1.8 and a Tamron 17-50mm 2.8 and a reflector

My editing technique is simple, minor adjustments for contrast and sharpening with a matte finish
What is your favorite thing about this session?
My favorite thing about this session was how much fun we had shooting it! I had a blast and my team absolutely loved it! When they left, they asked if we could schedule one more session before they leave for college. We laughed the whole time and the girls really bonded and enjoyed their experience. One girl said “I will always remember this shoot, it was so fun!”
What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
I want this session to convey how beautiful girl friendships are. Life is tough and girls can create competition between each other. Having girls who you can laugh with and share your dreams with makes life so much more enjoyable. Every girl is beautiful for who they are and rejoicing in that with friends is a beautiful thing.
