mellowyellowphotography_1310What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?

When she told me the outfits she would be wearing, I knew immediately where we needed to go.  The brick streets and old charm of our local downtown area would be a perfect fit.

Where did this photo shoot take place?

The lovely and quaint downtown areas of Rogers Arkansas

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?

I advised her on what types and how many outfits to bring, but everything she brought was her own style.  I want my seniors to feel 110% comfortable at their session, and I’m my opinion, that starts with wearing outfits you KNOW you feel fabulous in!

mellowyellowphotography_1315What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?

I mainly used my Canon 5d mark iii on one hip, and my mark ii on the other and switched between my 35mm for the more fun and sassy images, and my 50mm and 70-200mm for the others.

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?

My technique is pretty simple.  I use Adobe LR 99.9% of the time, focusing on just making the images pop naturally.  I don’t add any crazy filters that will date the images.  Minor level and temperature tweaks and of course I always smooth out any blemishes. That last thing I want my girls to focus on in their photos is any problem areas they may have!

What is your favorite thing about this session?

My favorite thing about this session was seeing Emma completely emerge as a confident young woman by the end of the session.  She started out a bit timid, but within a few minutes, she was showing her true, fun self an by the end, she was working it runway style with the best of ’em! 😉

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?

I hope this session conveys exactly what I want every session to convey about each and every senior and about myself as a photographer.  We are our best as ourselves.  I don’t try to make my seniors be anything they’re not, and my goal for every session is for them to not only love their images, but to feel like they are looking at the best version of who they are, not what just what they look like all dolled up.

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?

Have fun.  Enjoy yourself, and enjoy them.  I treat my girls like they are the only ones I photograph and I let them know how special they are.  This is a pivotal step in their young lives and I want them to feel amazing when they finish a session with me…like they can take on anything in this big world ahead of them!mellowyellowphotography_1311mellowyellowphotography_1316mellowyellowphotography_1312mellowyellowphotography_1318mellowyellowphotography_1313mellowyellowphotography_1321mellowyellowphotography_1314mellowyellowphotography_1322
