Urban locations are super fun for senior sessions. In this urban senior session below, photographer Jennifer of Four J Photography said she wanted to capitalize on the urban location.
“I wanted to capitalize on the location, so I went for an Urban Princess vibe,” said Jennifer. “I styled her outfit for that part of the session and my on-location hairstylist whipped her up a fabulous up-do for that particular set.”

What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?
For the last portion of her shoot I wanted to capitalize on her location, so I went for an Urban Princess vibe.
Where did this photo shoot take place?
Maddy’s shoot was in the historic downtown Lafayette, Louisiana. We used some ally’s, some streets, and some small park areas. We were even able to use the Acadiana Center for the Arts for a few indoor shots.
Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?
Maddy chose her own clothing and accessories for this session, except for the Urban Princess. I styled her outfit and my on-location hairstylist whipped her up a fabulous up-do for that particular set.
What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?
This session was shot with my Nikon D7000, my 70-200mm and my 24-70mm lenses. I used natural and reflected light as well.

What time of day were these taken?
Right after lunchtime, 1-3pm
Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
I try to keep my editing to a minimum. I do some quick global edits as I import my raw files to Lightroom. I then clean them as needed. Next, I flip them into Photoshop for any final or tricky edits. I also used a few flare layers for a fun effect for the urban princess set.
What is your favorite thing about this session?
I love the colors! Maddy chose some great outfits and they complimented the downtown area perfectly. On set, she was a natural- very easy going and took direction well.
What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
Maddy is sweet, photogenic, soft spoken and tall! She has been a wonderful member of my modeling team this year and she is always a pleasure to photograph. Her session is a good representation of my style- bold, colorful with a bit of editorial flare to it!
What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
Don’t be afraid to try new things! Her Urban Princess look literally cost me $4. I used a discount dress and jewelry, a step stool and old window curtains from my house and voila! She looked amazing and pulled of my vision perfectly.
