I want to start by asking you one question, “Do you believe you are worth it?” Now your first automatic response might be to say yes, but I want you to take a moment and reflect on this question. Do you really believe that you are worth it? That what you have to offer is valuable to your clients and to the world? If you are questioning whether or not you truly believe that, then this post is for you! We’re going to dive deep into what would happen if you believed you are worth it, so others will too!
As senior photographers, we often find ourselves facing a common challenge – feeling undervalued and struggling to get clients to see the true worth of our work. This is something most entrepreneurs struggle with in any field. Know that if you are feeling this way, you most certainly are not alone! Over the years, I have struggled with my own value and feeling like I am not reaching the goals I think I am ready for, or finding the clients who really see what I have to offer. It’s easy to fall into the trap of blaming the clients or the market for not recognizing our value or questioning our prices. But what if we shifted our perspective? What if we started by examining our own beliefs and understanding that we are truly worth what we charge? How would that change our interactions with clients and the success of our businesses?
The first step in changing our perspective is to cultivate a deep sense of confidence in what we offer and the prices we set. Confidence can be a tricky thing to not only find but also maintain and build up. When we exude confidence, it becomes a magnet for clients who are willing to pay for our expertise and talent. Confidence is contagious, and potential clients can sense it. They will trust in our abilities and recognize the value we bring to their precious moments and memories. Confidence attracts customers.
It’s natural to have moments of doubt or fear about our worth and pricing. But here’s the key: when we allow those doubts and fears to take center stage, they become apparent to our clients as well. On the flip side, when we truly believe in the value we provide and the reasons behind our pricing, that confidence shines through. It’s like a beacon that reassures clients, helping them understand the worth of our services.
When I talk about confidence, I don’t mean arrogance! There is a balance between being confident and firm in what you offer and your value, and then bragging or knocking down other photographers to make yourself look better. Subtle and firm confidence is the perfect balance for your clients to gain trust in you.
So, how do we develop this unshakable belief in our worth? It starts with a deep understanding of our craft and the unique value we bring to the table. Just like I suggested before, take time to reflect on your experience, your skills, and your artistic vision. Understand why you charge what you charge and how it aligns with the quality and expertise you offer. When you can explain this to your clients with clarity and conviction, they will be more likely to recognize and appreciate the value you bring to their photography needs.
Another important aspect of knowing our value and our worth is setting clear boundaries and communicating them effectively. When we are confident in our worth, we are more likely to establish boundaries that align with our pricing. This makes sure that clients understand the level of service they can expect and the value they are receiving. By setting clear expectations, we attract clients who respect those boundaries and are willing to invest in our services.
It’s important to remember that building this confidence in our worth is an ongoing journey! We may face moments of self-doubt along the way, but by consistently reinforcing our beliefs, we can stay on track. Surround yourself with a supportive community of fellow photographers who understand your journey and can provide encouragement and constructive feedback.
