Photographing seniors from your own alma mater is a special experience that this photographer, Jo Clark, of BluElla Photography, got to experience with this senior session.
Jo used one of this senior’s favorite things to end the session. I think personalizing each seniors’ session is a great way to get that seniors personality to shine through!!
Check out this session below and be sure to check out Jo’s work here. Thanks for sharing!!

What was your inspiration for the photo shoot? Briana is a die hard Jo Koy fan so we decided on a place in downtown Sacramento that had a comedy club to incorporate some shots of her with their sign to represent her love of all things goofy.
Where did this photo shoot take place? We utilized many different parts of Old Sacramento for this shoot, walking along the riverfront finding inspiration and options for diversity along the way. The shots taken on the tracks are non functioning for trains. This location offers a lot of choices to get many different looks in one session. We didn’t even scratch the surface of all it has to offer.
Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot? Briana came completely prepared for her session using her own clothing choices. When she showed up with a pretty, feminine dress, a sporty outfit, and a casual comedy shirt I was super excited! She is a mix of soft femininity, sporty tomboy, and goofball comedian and came fully equipped to show all sides of her personality.

What camera, lens and equipment were used for this shoot? All images were shot with my Canon 5d Mark II, 85 1.8, and 50 1.4.
What time of day were these taken? We shot the last 2 hours before sunset. I try to do all my shooting at this time because I adore the lighting so much this time of day.
Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session? I like to enhance the natural beauty of my seniors and avoid heavy processing which was really easy with a beautiful girl like Briana.
What is your favorite thing about this session? I loved shooting someone with such a light hearted attitude and wonderful sense of humor. I am a goofball myself and we spent most of our time together laughing. It was also really amazing to shoot the daughter of a high school friend. She looks so much like her mom did back in our high school days.

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style? Capturing the essence and many sides of seniors is what drives my passion for senior photography. They all come with individual interests and personalities and I love getting to know who they are and what they are looking forward to in their futures. It’s invigorating!
What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors? Cherish their individuality and try to capture their essence. These are days they will look back on with fond memories of who they were when they were finishing high school. Preserve those memories and have fun!
