How do you style a concept shoot?  With Fashion of course!  Coming up with a concept is the first part of planning a concept shoot (or in our case a shoot out).  Once you have your idea, finding the perfect clothing to help illustrate that idea is key to styling your shoot.

In Charleston, we looked to our location to help us come up with a concept.  Middleton Place is a sprawling southern gardens full of trees dripping with moss, beautiful hedges, ponds and secret pathways.  Alice in Wonderland seemed to be the perfect concept for this location.

Courtney DeLaura and I spent time shopping online to find the clothing that would perfectly illustrate the characters we chose to portray.  Alice, The Mad Hatter, The Queen and The Rabbit took on a contemporary look with clothing from Forever 21, Free People and Target.

Check out how we went from inspiration to fashion for this fun concept shoot and check out the tips on how you can go from a concept to reality!

1.  Brainstorm your concept.  Look at movies, stories or fashion magazines for inspiration.

2.  Pick a concept that works with your location.  If you have a location picked first, keep that in mind when brainstorming your concept.  If you have to hunt for a location after you pick your concept, make sure it fist the image in your mind for your shoot.  And as always, make sure you have permission and that the location is safe for you and your models.

3.  Use Pinterest, Polyvore or some other type of program to help you lay out the pieces and allow you to visualize everything together before you purchase.  I like to see all the clothes together before I purchase so I can be sure it works together.  If models are bringing their own clothes, putting together a board with Pinterest or Polyvore can help them understand exactly what you are looking for and know what to bring to the shoot.
