Do you have a system in place for your busy season or are you constantly trying to stay on top of things? Senior Season varies from place to place across the country and what is a busy time for some senior photographers is slow for others. But no matter when your busy season is, being ready is the key to having a successful senior season.
Today’s Tip Tuesday guest blogger is Tomayia Colvin who is a senior photographer in Houston, Texas. She is sharing a few tips to how she gets ready for the Storm of Senior Season.

Last spring during the middle of “peak” season, I often felt overwhelmed and actually dreaded answering my phone and reading emails from clients. It wasn’t that I didn’t enjoy shooting, I actually loved it, but running a photography business while working a full time time was secretly draining me beyond measure. I felt like I was on an island with the hurricane in sight but had not taken the time to board up one wall of my business. I wasn’t nearly prepared for the storm of senior clients that would come my way.
Thankfully, I survived but not without a few snags along the way. But fortunately, I was able to salvage my business before I drowned in a sea of unforgiving clients.
This year, I decided to be proactive and face the storm head on!
Here’s my personal “Storm Guide” for this senior season:
1. Define your workflow: I personally used Rachel Brenke’s Client Workflow Chart This will allow me to see the “big picture” of where I am in my business daily and make adjustments as needed. The Client Workflow Chart can be found by visiting this link: https://www.e-junkie.com/ecom/gb.php?ii=1157261&c=ib&aff=234351&cl=204129

2. Get Organized: Use a binder or filing system that contains all of your client information. I can’t tell you how many times I lost clients print orders because I stuffed it in my camera bag and forgot it was there.

3. Utilize a desk calendar: Before I commit to even dinner with friends I open my calendar to pace my self accordingly and not over stuff my weekends.

With these Senior Storm Survival tips, I’m ready to take this Sea of Seniors by storm this year! How will you survive your ‘senior storm’?
