Sometimes a senior session just calls for a beach vibe whether or not you have an ocean nearby! 🙂  In this beautiful senior session, photographer Alex Lasota of Alex Lasota Photography in Richland, Washington says she wanted a beach vibe and utilized the local sand dunes to accomplish the beachy feeling.

“I recently coined Adele with the name of ‘a pocket full of sunshine,’ which is exactly what this young lady is,” said Alex.

Check out this session below and read what Alex had to say about it.  Thanks for sharing your work with Seniorologie Alex!

What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?
I’ve recently coined Adele with the name “a pocket full of sunshine.” Which is exactly what this young lady is.  Our inspiration derived from soft pallets in neutral toned backgrounds.  Ideally we were attempting to shoot for a beach vibe (minus the ocean) at our local sand dunes.

Where did this photo shoot take place?
Richland, Washington and Pasco, Washington.

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?
We sure did.  Adele works at a local clothing store and is an absolute genious in regards to fashion.  Knowing our themes ahead of schedule, she brought with her a few outfit changes and she styled each one according to the setting, with only minimal direction from me at our consultation.

What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?
The Canon 5D Mark III was used for this shoot, alongside the 50mm 1.2 Canon lens, and the 85mm 1.2 Canon lens.

What time of day were these taken?
Evening (6pm-8pm)

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
I’m a huge fan of minimal post processing.  For me I try my hardest to make the frame as perfect as possible so that I won’t have to do a plethora of touching up in my editing chair.  I use a handful of presets that I’ve both purchased and made myself to speed up this process.  From there I hand touch skin, teeth, eyes, and color correct to make sure each frame is flawless.  If I do find some part of my image to be distracting, I’ll tend to it using the clone tool in order to evoke a clean look.

What is your favorite thing about this session?
I would have to say that my favorite thing about Adele’s session is the joy she brought to the set.  She’s very easy going and is comfortable in her own skin, which makes my job of directing that much more enjoyable.  I think I’ll always look back on this shoot as one my favorites, because of her energy.

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
If anything I hope this session conveys that I put time and effort into my sessions as I want their window back to their senior year to be a beautiful one.  It’s important to me that my clients leave feeling as though they couldn’t have made a better decision. And it is also important to me that my relationship with my clients is one that is lighthearted and easygoing, much like my imagery portrays.  I find that my branding is consistant across the board between imagery and relationships, which is exactly what I wanted my business to be.

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
My only advice to other senior photographers, is to be consistent with your branding. Knowing your style allows you to attract the type of work you want to shoot, which in turn leaves both parties happy.  My clients know that my style is light and airy, as that is what I choose to advertise, so naturally they too want the same look for their shoots.   This keeps me happy because they understand and trust me, and it keeps them happy because they know what they are receiving.
