Getting a glimpse of the wardrobe senior clients have in mind really help a photographer determine the look and feel of the shoot.  And it definitely helps with location!  You want the look and feel to compliment the location so it all works together to capture the seniors personality and style.

Casey Murphy of d Squared Designs said, “Julie is one of those girls with tremendous style!  After we took a quick peek at the outfits she brought, we knew just where we wanted to take her!  With the outfits she chose and her hair color, outdoor-nature shots were in store for this sweet girl!”

Check out this session below and be sure to check out more of Casey’s work here.  Thanks for sharing Casey!!

Where did this photo shoot take place?  These images were taken in good ol’ Southern Missouri. We traveled to several locations (farms, open land, railroad tracks, etc.)

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?  We didn’t! We wish we could take credit but it was all Julie. Seniors these days all have tremendous fashion sense!

What camera, lens and equipment were used for this shoot?  We use our 5DMarkII cameras, as well as, our two magic 85L and 50L lenses!

What time of day were these taken?  We shot this session at high noon. Which we typically don’t prefer but actually ended up LOVING because the sun gave us so much haze and light to work with. The high sun really ended up making some of these images

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?  AH, we never edit ANY session the same. We not only come up with our own editing actions but we like to stay on top of our game with the “in” editing style. Our seniors tend to love bright pops of colors so we try to keep the real natural image in anything we edit. For girls, we glamorize their faces–making them completely flawless. All of this is done in Photoshop, Bridge, Lightroom!

Can you share how you achieved the hazy look in some of the photos?  Was it in-camera or post-processing?  Sure! Like we said above, we shot this session at high noon. The sun was in almost 99% of the shots. We tend to shoot into the sun and that’s when the hazy look appears.

What is your favorite thing about this session?  Anything? We would probably choose the senior herself. Julie is one of those girls with tremendous strength and passion for life. It was an honor working with her and we truly enjoyed bringing her true beauty into every image.

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?  True beauty is the essence of every woman and girl. Too many young girls now-a-days don’t feel pretty. Don’t feel beautiful. We strive to not only make our seniors feel beautiful but express who they really are through their images. No session we shoot is ever alike. Much like no person is a like. We feel (and hope) we conveyed this through and to Julie. A d-Squared senior session is an experience—we want our seniors leaving their shooting knowing they are beautiful inside and out.
What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?  Have Fun!!  Relax!  If you’re having fun and relaxing, the senior will do the same, resulting in some of the best images you’ve taken.  And don’t forget to crack a random joke every once in a while – real smiles are our favorite!  Although, this senior does rock the serious face! 🙂
