Picking a senior rep that is beautiful both inside and out is very important.  And picking one that is deserving and one that will represent your business is the key to a successful rep program.

Casey Murphy of d-Squared Designs says that this beautiful senior was chosen as one of d-Squared’s 2013 Senior Spokesmodels because of her beauty both in and out, here diverse activities in school and her gorgeous smile!

Check out this beautiful session and be sure to check out more senior work from d-Squared Designs here.  Thanks for sharing Casey!

What was your inspiration for the photo shoot?

Carly was chosen to be one of the 2013 d-Squared Designs senior spokes models. She was chosen to represent d-Squared Designs because of her diverse activities in school AND (let’s face it!) that gorgeous smile! Carly’s sense of fashion style was inspiration enough to immediately tell us where and how we wanted to shoot her.

Where did this photo shoot take place?

This photo shoot took place in Columbia, MO, where we have a number of “secret” places.  We love to shoot Seniors in unusual places around Columbia. This particular location happened to be a farm that is desolate and abandoned and definitely thought with Carly’s unique style she could totally rock the scenery.

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?

We typically provide our Seniors with clothing recommendations that we think will work in certain settings and photograph well.  In this case, as much as we’d like to take credit for her incredible, distinctive sense of fashion—this is ALL Carly. Although,  we provide guidance and suggestions, our philosophy is to capture who the Senior is…not who we think they are or want them to be.  Allowing the Senior to dress in their own style, allows them to be who they really are – in turn, they are more comfortable and relaxed throughout the entire shoot.

What camera, lens and equipment were used for this shoot?

We are loyal CANON lovers! We own several Canon bodies, but prefer to shoot with our 5D Mark II’s. In this shoot; we used the 85L, 16-35L, and the 24-70L. Typically, there are two of us shooting at once (note: d-Squared Designs stands for Dad/Daughter), we tend to switch out the lenses frequently to ensure we get lots of different looks for our clients.

What time of day were these taken?

Ahhh, the golden hour, just around sunset. Our absolute favorite time of the day to shoot because the light is just divine.

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?

Our editing techniques could fill a book. We NEVER do anything the same and strive to switch up how we edit photos. We prefer to be on top of our game and never get into a slump by editing everyone’s images the same.  Does it take more time? Sure! We pride ourselves on producing images for our clients that are unlike their friends. One thing we do focus on for everyone is how we edit our girls’ face and eyes. Eyes can say SO much about a person in just one snapshot—so we like to spruce them up with a little Photoshopping. 😉

What is your favorite thing about this session?

Just one thing? Hmm. . . We specialize in Senior photography. We work with a number of them and just love making each one feel beautiful. We truly feel we captured Carly’s inner spirit and delightful personality.

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?

Carly is one of those sweet, quiet, beautiful girls you love to be around. We knew right away we wanted to express and display her lighthearted attitude and match it with our carefree and creative style of shooting. We truly let her be herself and focused on lighting, angles and capturing Carly.  Of course, her body moves just like a model, which made our job WAY easy!  Our style reflects WHO the Senior is…inside and out…not who somebody makes them to be.

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?

Everyone loves to feel like a model . . . so we strive to do just that for each and every experience we provide to our seniors. One of our main goals is to pull the inner beauty out of the kids we shoot and make it absolutely SHINE in every single image we shoot.  But most importantly, have fun!
