Audrey Hepbern is a huge inspiration when it comes to style and grace!  Which is why she makes the perfect person to base a senior session on to show off a senior’s style and grace!

Carol Jean Strawn of Full Life Photography in Chattanooga, Tennessee submitted these beautiful photos.  “This is the vintage portion of a senior portrait session,” said Carol Jean.  “I went for a simple take on a beautiful blonde rendition of Audrey Hepburn.”

What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?
When she mentioned that she loved the old movie “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.” And her mom said her daughter was her blonde “Audrey Hepburn,” then I was so excited about playing that up a bit!

Where did this photo shoot take place?
This took place on the campus of a local college.

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?
Yes. Although we scheduled this session only a week before it was done, we were in close contact the few days before it when they were out shopping. They sent me pics of what they found and then I brought things to go along with it. It was so fun, and they did a great job helping me create our looks.

What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?
I used my d600 with 85mm lens.

What time of day were these taken?
Two hours before sunset.

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
I tried to use the simplest possible post-processing, with just a touch of vintage tints. Since we had such great natural light, I did minimal processing. I shot in raw and used Photoshop and Portraiture to touch-up and smooth skin.

What is your favorite thing about this session?
The light on this session was awesome! We actually had to wait for it to stop raining, but when it did…we even had a momentary mist rising from the stairs. You may be able to see the mist in a couple of shots.

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
I always attempt to convey the inner personality and beauty of each senior I photograph, as well as the outer. Although I had never met this senior before, I could tell after talking with her on the phone that she had a great head on her shoulders. The Audrey Hepburn quote “For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone” says perfectly what I wanted to say about her in these images.

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
It may not always be possible, but take time to try to get to know them a little prior to the session. I have found this to make such a big difference. When it happens, and we connect! Boom, we really get some awesome images!
