Diving head first into your first Senior Rep Program can be a bit scary!  What do you do, how do you plan it, what rewards do you give?  All of these things in addition to how you are going to photograph the seniors chosen is something you have to decide for your rep program.

“I recently transitioned from being a general photographer to specializing in high school senior portraiture,” said Delmekia of Jackson Flannigan Photography.  “I have been hesitate to jump head first with a big group concept shoot.  So I chose a group of seniors from one of the local high schools and gave them our full senior experience so that they are able to share their experience with their friends and classmates.”

Check out this beautiful session below and read what else Delmekia had to say about it.  Thanks for sharing your work with Seniorologie Delmekia!

What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?
This session was inspired by my senior’s wardrobe. I ALWAYS do a email wardrobe consultation with my seniors. This helps me choose locations to truly help my senior shine and I find you can learn a lot about a senior by their wardrobe choice. Autum showcased a casual, girly wardrobe so I knew immediately I wanted to take her to one of my favorite locations, that house a local garden shop known throughout our area.

Where did this photo shoot take place?
Autum showcased a casual, girly wardrobe so I knew immediately I wanted to take her to one of my favorite locations. It’s an outdoor Saturday Market that feature locally grown produce during the summer months and houses a local garden and antique shop known throughout the area. The variety and textures makes for an awesome location because I get several looks in one area.

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?
No. My senior wardrobes are 100% percent their own. I provide them with links to my Pinterest boards and a very detail What 2 Wear Guide to help them choose looks for their senior session. I ask all my girls to email me their senior wardrobe and from there I will make small tweaks and/or offer suggests.

What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?
I’m a Canon girl and currently shooting with my Canon 7d. My photography is very subject focus making my 50mm/1.4 the perfect portrait lens for the 7d’s crop sensor. I will also whip out my 35mm/2.0 when I want to bring more of the background in the photograph.

What time of day were these taken?
3 hours before sunset on a very cloudy day

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
My editing process is really simple. After sorting and applying basic adjustments in Lightroom, I open each image in Photoshop where I make skin adjustments, add a little light, bring back some of the contrast I pull out in Lightroom and run one of my favorite actions at a low opacity. I finish each photo with MCP High Definition Sharpening action and apply a light “airiness” through the offset slider.

What is your favorite thing about this session?
Autum’s smile. She literally smiled throughout our entire session.

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
I want this session to reflect Autum’s beautiful, bubbly personality and how we were able to capture that on camera.

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
Let the senior be themselves and dictate the direction of their session. Don’t try to force a more fashion inspired pose and/or express from a senior who feel more comfortable smiling in front of the camera and vice versa, let your more fashion forwards seniors shine through posing and express. I always go into a session with a game plan for photographs I want to create, but in the end it’s my senior’s session and I go where they take me.
