All across the country, in probably every state, there is a State Fair.  In fact, the South Carolina State Fair (where I live) is going on right now and I am heading there tomorrow!  But, I am guessing no state has a fair as big as the Texas State Fair!

The fair provides a fun, colorful location for senior shoots.  I love seeing the different ways photographers use this as a location for their senior shoots.  And Jared Hernandez of Jared Rey Photography submitted a fun fair shoot that makes me want cotton candy, fried Oreos and so much more!  Oh, and it makes me want to photograph a senior at my own state fair! 🙂

Check out this shoot below and read what Jared had to say about it!  To view more of Jared’s work, click here.  Thanks for sharing Jared!!

What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?
I had not seen a lot of high school seniors take their senior session during the yearly State Fair of Texas so I wanted to put one together for a senior client.

Where did this photo shoot take place?
State Fair of Texas

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?
My client left all the conceptual ideas for the session up to me. I asked her to bring along some of her favorite outfits with pink in it and I chose one outfit I felt would be great to work with throughout the whole session.

What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?
Canon 5D Mk3, 50/L, 35/L, 135/L, 85/1.8

What time of day were these taken?
4 pm

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
I used Vsco Film Presets and Alien Skin Exposure 4 in Photoshop.

What is your favorite thing about this session?
I loved all the colors around the fair and just being free to do whatever came to mind as we walked the fair grounds.

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
I simply wanted to create a fun, colorful, bright session that not only highlighted the fun personality of my client as well as share some of the fun things to do at the fair.

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
Get them laughing at themselves early on in the session, it will help them get comfortable in front of your camera and lighten the mood when taking pictures.
