Asking your seniors what they envision for their senior photo shoot is a great way to not only plan their session but will also allow you to get to know them.
“Our inspiration was based on what Mary Mac envisioned,” said Jessi Tarbet of Jessi Dalton Photography in Colorado. “She wanted a classy chic feel and some with urban edge.”

What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?
Our inspiration was based on what Mary Mac envisioned. She wanted a classy chic feel and some with urban edge.
Where did this photo shoot take place?
We shot the urban look at The Streets at Southglenn and the rest at a park near the mall.
Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?
Yes! I have my seniors fill out a questionnaire and then come in for a consultation. We then go into detail about what they envision and filled out in the questionnaire. It allows us to really get an idea of outfits and locations to give them the best session to reflect who they are.
What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?
Canon 5D Mark III
50mm
70-200mm
Reflector
What time of day were these taken?
5pm
Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
I like a clean simple edit so not much was done to the image. I added a little more saturation and touched up the skin.
What is your favorite thing about this session?
I loved how confident she was!
What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
I want my sessions to really reflect who a senior is and how they see themselves. I want them to look and feel beautiful. To be comfortable in their skin and have strong self confidence.
What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
Really take the time to get to know your seniors. Listen to what they want and make them feel as comfortable and confident as you can. By doing so, you’ll be able to capture a more natural smile and they’ll love being in the spotlight!
