Jessica Daniels is a photographer out of Vancouver, Washington and like many photographers, she started out taking photo of her kids. After shooting boudoir for a while, she realized as much as she loved it, it didn’t work with her business model – on location! She had taken some photos of seniors for friends and realized it was the genre that was perfect for her business.
“The sessions were relaxed and fun and my personality and ability to create rapport with my clients really shined through,” Jessica said.
And just this year she has decided to specialize in seniors! After seeing this awesome senior session, I think she definitely will be successful in the senior market!! Good luck Jessica!

P.S. I love those red shoes!! 🙂

What was your inspiration for this photo shoot? I’m inspired by my clients…their personalities and styles! I just love their energy and how excited they are to have their photos taken. I want to show them how gorgeous they are without be over the top sexy. Each girl has her own unique, authentic self, and my goal during the session is to bring that out in them, but most of all, I want them to have a GREAT time!
Where did this shoot take place? The shoot was at a local park and a small, cute main street area in downtown Camas, WA.
Did you collaborate with this senior on the clothing worn? I loved what Sydney chose for her shoot! She picked a great variety of styles to show the different sides of her personality.

What lens, camera and equipment was used for this photo session? My baby! Canon 5D Mark II and used my 50mm 1.4 and 85mm 1.8. I’m hoping to upgrade these lenses but I’m really happy with them.
What time of day did this photo shoot take place? It was 3:30-5:30pm. Here in the Northwest, you can’t ever assume it won’t rain. We had overcast skies but then the sun peaked out for about 10 minutes and we had to hurry to shoot in that fantastic light.
Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing these photos? I absolutely adore Mama Shan’s actions for correcting skin issues. I use “Mama’s Powder” to even out skin and help with blemishes. I also use her actions to sharpen and brighten eyes. For black and white conversions, I love Red Leaf Boutique’s Film Shift Actions, and to add a pop of color or cross process, Jinky’s original Itty Bitty Action Set and The Sweet Set.
What is your favorite thing about these photos? My favorite thing about these photos is that they really show Sydney’s style, beauty, and many sides of her personality.
What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your photography style? Getting to know my clients and really listening to them is important to me. Sydney is a such a smart, beautiful girl. I wanted to show her just how amazing she is!

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding senior portrait photography? The best tip is to be yourself. Knowing and being honest about who you are as a person and as an artist, and then bringing that authenticity with you to your business and your clients is key. Seniors know when you aren’t being you. If you are uncomfortable with yourself, or trying too hard they can sense it. It’s okay to be goofy, silly, and mess up! Just keep showing up and be yourself!
