The connection of a senior with their beloved animals is something that is amazing to capture on camera.  In this beautiful session below, that connection is multiplied by two as there are two girls showing their love for their two horses!

“I wanted to highlight the natural beauty of these two girls and their horses in the scenic countryside of North Georgia,” said Kimberly Combs of Kimberly Ann Portraits in Marietta, Georgia.

What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?
I wanted to highlight the natural beauty of these two girls and their horses in scenic countryside of North Georgia.

Where did this photo shoot take place?
Farm in Carnesville, GA

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?
Yes, we wanted the concept to highlight them and their horses. They both are very active with competition horse riding. And since this is such a huge part of their lives, what better way to photograph them with their sweet horses.

What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?
Canon 5D Mark II & Canon 24-70mm

What time of day were these taken?
Evening

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
I use Lightroom & Photoshop to select my favorite images and retouching blemishes (no one wants to see their temporary zit on a photograph that will last a lifetime).
Very minimum retouching. The key is to get perfect exposure & composition in camera. Then Photoshop is used to add a touch of contrast, saturation, etc. to polish the images to look their very best.

What is your favorite thing about this session?
Just the simple & natural beauty of the girls along with the countryside view. I really enjoyed the connection the girls had with horses. I could see how much they loved their horses and how fond the horse are of the girls. This was one of my favorite sessions. The simplicity of this session made me really appreciate life away from the city. We had a lot of fun roaming the farm. I want to live on a farm now!

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
That every session is truly unique. I like to learn about each senior’s activities, passions, and hobbies. Making sure I collaborate with my client in terms of where she feels comfortable & what she wants to incorporate in her session.
I’m still learning my photography style. I can’t say or label my style at the moment. It’s been a journey and I hope my style will develop with each and every session.

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
Ask a lot of questions to get to know them. Be engaged with them when they tell you about themselves. When you have conversations with them, always ask them what they think or what they want. Don’t dictate to them. Their whole lives have been dictated by their parents, school, teachers, etc. Their senior year is a year of transitioning from childhood to discovering themselves as young adults. When you ask for their suggestions or input, they feel important and their opinions matter.

Last but not least, have fun!
