Are you someone that shoots location heavy or do you find gorgeous light?  This session is a perfect example of taking a location, that initially a client may not think is the perfect location, and utilizing the beautiful light provided in a parking garage to make the client stand out.
Kristin Wilkerson of Kristin Wilkerson Photography knew that the light in a parking garage would highlight this senior’s features perfectly.
Read Kristen’s interview below to learn the benefits of a parking garage shoot and check out her stunning images.  You can see more of her amazing work here.  Thanks Kristin!!
What was your inspiration for the photo shoot?  I generally don’t have a lot of inspiration going into the shoot, Once I get on location and start photographing an analyzing the surroundings and subject I start getting inspiration of what I think will look good.
Where did this photo shoot take place?  This shoot took place in Utah at a parking garage near a conference center.
What are the benefits to using a location such as a parking garage?  There’s a few great benefits to shooting in a parking garage.  One is that you are in a darker atmosphere but surrounded with big openings that are flooding in the natural light.  When you bring your subject close to those light sources you get really well lit eyes that will look sharp and stunning.  The second benefit comes from shooting on top of the garage.  Even though you might be shooting in full sun you have a ton of light reflecting off the concrete that acts as a natural reflector.
Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?  I give small tips to them on what looks good on camera.  The beauty of working with seniors is that they almost always have cute and stylish clothes.
What camera, lens and equipment were used for this shoot?  I shoot with a Nikon D700 and 90% of the shoot I have my 24-70mm on.  I also did a little work with the off camera flash.  It’s amazing  really opened up a lot of possibilities for new locations and unique looks.
What time of day were these taken?  3:00 pm
Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session? I use levels to deepen shadows and brighten skin tones. I also use the healing brush to remove any blemishes and lastly sharpen for printing and for the web.

What is your favorite thing about this session? Because I’m a little obsessed with the OFC right now I would probably say that the shots  where I used it were my favorites.
What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?  I want it to show her personality and beauty.  As for my style, I hope that it shows seniors I can bring out their personality and beauty and document it during this huge milestone in their life.

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?  Be fun.  When you are fun and interacting with your subject they open up and start to show you that personality that will help you tell their story through photographs.
