What is it about a carnival that makes me smile?  Is it the memories of going to the South Carolina State fair every fall, the smells of the food that is so yummy but oh so bad for you or the fun with friends?

I am not sure what I love the most about a carnival or fair but these photos from photographer Lindsey Stump of Lindsey Stump Photography in Austin, Texas do a wonderful job of taking me right back to the days I spent at the fair.

Lindsey used this seniors fun and colorful wardrobe, a candy apple and many of the fairs bright colored booths to create a fun senior photo session.  Check out this session below and read what Lindsey has to say about how she pulled together this fun theme.  Also, check out Lindsey’s work on her blog. Thanks for sharing Lindsey!!

What was your inspiration for the photo shoot?
My inspiration for this photo shoot was to really bring out the personality of the senior. Her personality is fun, flirty, and bold so I thought that “glamming” her up and putting her in a setting that is colorful and engaging would really show off who she is as a young lady.
Where did this photo shoot take place?
This session took place at a carnival in South Texas
Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?
Absolutely. I work with every senior before their session (and during) to style the perfect shoot. We both bring wardrobe and accessory options. Also, I like to pick up little items or accessories specifically for each individual client before the shoot. This makes the shoot that much more special and unique!
What camera, lens and equipment were used for this shoot?
I used a Nikon D700 with the Nikkor 35mm 1.4G, Nikkor 85mm 1.4G, and Nikkor 50mm 1.8D
What time of day were these taken?
These images were taken in the early evening as the sun was setting
Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
I like to bump up the contrast and vibrance just a little in the editing process. I feel like it it makes the pictures POP a little bit more.
What is your favorite thing about this session?
I love this location. There were so many great backdrops and props that the senior was able to incorporate! Also, many wonderful textures and colors that I tried to capture in the images.

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
This senior was an absolute gem. She took direction really well when it came to ideas for poses. I want this session to show how versatile I can be at one location. I like taking one girl and one location to create so many different looks to the pictures, so I hope that’s what other clients and photographers see, too.
What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
The most important thing that I can share is to SWITCH IT UP! Switch up outfits, switch up the poses, switch up the backgrounds and props! Pick a location that offers endless possibilities so that they get MANY different images that they fall in love with.
