Truly creating a session that is uniquely that senior is the perfect way to stand out among the other photographers in town and guarantee that you get more clients and more bookings.

For this session below, photographer Maggie Turner of Maggie Turner Photography in Atlanta said, “When I first met Aly, she was all smiles.  And that smile never left her face.  She is a summer loving senior who wanted to portray her heart in her senior pictures.  Though it was a bit chilly outside, Aly insisted that we keep color and sunshine in each outfit!  And I couldn’t have agreed more!”

Check out this beautiful session below and read what else Maggie had to say about it.  Thanks for sharing your work with Seniorologie Maggie!

What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?
Aly is the definition of strong. But she still knows how to be a girly girl when she wants. She is a giver, never a taker. And definitely a lover, not a fighter. Aly wanted to show her true personality and heart in her senior pictures. Not just the typical Styrofoam letters spelling out “2016”, picture. So together, we dug deep in her heart to find what she is passionate about and has lots of love for.
The industrial location behind her first outfit represents her strong side. Aly is a varsity swimmer and lifeguard. She is a marathon runner and a biker. Her love for fitness and strength go beyond what most people understand. Aly does not give up. So by choosing a strong foundation such as the industrial building, we felt that it was the perfect backdrop for her first casual outfit.
Aly’s second outfit was inspired by the part of her that is free-spirited and loving. The color of her dress was blue, which is a very calming color, so we paired it with the natural colors of the earth. The entire vibe from her second outfit was focused on showing her giving, care-free, and loving heart. All cool tones and wind blown ideas.
Her third sitting was inspired by both sides of her (strong and loving). The black lace outfit represented her “never give up” attitude. It also represented her strong heart and her ability to run, swim, bike, and save lives while lifeguarding. We chose the backdrop of this powerful outfit to be more calming and open minded. The trees and water gave it the earthy feel, and the sunflowers gave it the happy, free-spirited feel. Once we put these two together, it was pure magic. The love she has for the outdoors was truly captured in this one.

Where did this photo shoot take place?
Downtown Gainesville, My grandfathers pasture, and Lake Sydney Lanier. All three locations were outside just how we like it! 🙂

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?
Definitely! We met at the Starbucks inside our city mall and discussed her vision for each outfit. Once we came up with a game plan, we shopped for each piece to perfectly match our vision board for her session.

What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?
Camera: Nikon D810 *LOVE IT*
Lens: Nikon 85mm

*edited in both Photoshop and Lightroom.

Aly’s session was my first full session using my new camera (Nikon D810), and I couldn’t have been more pleased. The colors in her eyes were really brought out by this amazing piece of technology… and the creamy backgrounds just made my heart melt! Love this gear forever.

What time of day were these taken?
Roughly Three hours leading into sunset.

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
I love to add color! When there are rusty background props or bright sunflowers, I make sure to make them pop! Everything in the image is there for a reason. I want to accentuate any part of the photo that I feel has meaning. For example: The sunflowers in outfit #3. Those were definitely statement sunflowers, so I made sure that they were the prettiest, brightest yellow to standout beyond all of the pine trees around them. One thing I had to be careful of was to make sure that the background did not overshadow my client. So I did not do any extra sharpening or clarifying. Just color popping! 🙂

What is your favorite thing about this session?
I would have to say Aly! She really and truly is one of those people that could light up a room. Her energy and happiness just radiates outward and I LOVE that you can see it through her senior photos.

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
I believe that this session conveys that Aly is exactly how I describe her to be. Fun-loving, energetic, and happy. I know that her session shows my business’ creative abilities and hard work. Once the session is published to social media, I get to tell how much fun we had and brag about my amazing clients. 🙂

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
Always listen to your clients ideas and style. They will love their images that much more knowing that they contributed to the outcome.
