Let’s hear it for the boys! Today we have an awesome senior boy session by Megan Evans of Megan Evans Photography.
She said, “Austin is a senior at the Severn School in Severna Park, MD. He is on the sailing team and being that we live near the sailing capital of the US, Annapolis, his mom wanted to incorporate his passion for the sport into his session!”
I think this is a great way for guys to feel comfortable at their sessions. Giving them something to do such as incorporating their sport makes them feel comfortable and relaxed. Great job Megan!

Austin’s love of sailing and his involvement in the sailing team in high school
Where did this photo shoot take place?
Annapolis, MD, in and around the Annapolis Yacht Club.
Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?
No
What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?
Nikon 810, 50mm lens
What time of day were these taken?
late afternoon
Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
I use Lightroom for my editing and the bring the images into Photoshop if I need to fix some blemishes. In this case, I also popped the sky so the clouds really stood out.
What is your favorite thing about this session?
Austin was such a great sport. He was up for anything. His mom and I were just gushing over how handsome he looked. He was confident and relaxed. And I love all the sailboats!
What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
My style is fresh, clean and fun. I aim to to let the senior’s personality be the star of the session. And I want it too look like we had a great time shooting which we definitely did.
What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
Be prepared to take the lead on posing. Don’t expect your seniors to know what to do. In some cases, their senior session may be the first time the camera has been focused on them. And it can be nerve wracking! Make them feel relaxed and get them to forget about the camera.
