When your client loves fashion and has many different styles, it is best to make sure she can show off all of those styles in her senior session!

“When asked, she described her style as classy, trendy, modern, girly, old-fashioned, bold and for lack of a better word, the slightest bit of hipster,” said Renee Flanders of Renee Marchelle Photography.  “She carefully picked out her outfits and I chose locations that I felt best complimented each one!” said Renee.

What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?
This senior is inspired by her love for fashion. When asked, she described her style as ” classy, trendy, modern, girly, old-fashioned, bold, and for the lack of a better word, the slightest bit of hipster.” She carefully picked out her outfits and I chose locations that I felt best complimented each one.

Where did this photo shoot take place?
This photo shoot took place in a small village called Bierstadt in the city of Wiesbaden, Germany.

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?
This senior took it upon herself to style all 3 outfits as well as conceptualize the ideas to photograph the balloons and confetti. I couldn’t have been more pleased with her creativity and adorable fashion choices!

seniorologie4seniorologie5seniorologie6 What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?

Nikon D610
85mm 1.8g
5-in-1 reflector (silver)

What time of day were these taken?
1-2 hours before sunset

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
I always strive to get the photos as close to perfect as I can in camera. After the session, my post-processing techniques always include mild retouching and a bump in contrast (with levels adjustments) to give a more drama and complete the vibrant, polished image

What is your favorite thing about this session?
My favorite thing about this session is that insane light we lucked out with! I was able to make use of many types of lighting: Rim lighting, back lighting, ambient light, diffused light, I mean seriously, we had it all!

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
I want this session to convey the confidence and natural beauty of this fashionable senior. This particular session defines my senior photography style because it is chic, feminine, and radiates with vivid colors. I want all of my senior sessions to convey growth and confidence while maintaining a youthful spirit. That’s where the magic is found when photographing high school seniors and that’s why I love what I do!

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
One tip I can share regarding photographing seniors is to use a reflector! You will, with out a doubt, notice a huge improvement in your senior’s skin tones, catch lights (in the eyes), and overall lighting techniques. It will make you a better photographer when you’re able to manipulate natural light to stay consistent in your photography and editing styles. Oh, and don’t be afraid to be goofy during your session. It’ll ease the senior’s nerves….and yours too 🙂
