Last weekend I travelled to Vegas for the Luxe Workshop with the fabulous Leah Remillet of Go 4 Pro Photos, Kelli France of Chic Critique and Kelli France Photography, Courtney DeLaura of Get Schooled Photo and Brittney Kluse of Brittney Kluse Photography.  The five of us decided on a specific theme for this year’s event.  That theme was Gossip Girl!

I had never watched the show before so I started doing research by googling the characters and asking a friend and fellow stylist, Carmen Evans of Love Carmen Rose for advice.  There are several characters on the show and I chose to style my two models in outfits after the characters Serena, played by Blake Lively and Blair, played by Leighton Meester.  By narrowing down the characters in which I wanted my models to immolate, I was able to create outfits specifically to those styles.

Serena’s style is eclectic.  She has an upper east side vibe mixed with vintage mixed with boho.  It is a very random mix of things that thrown together look completely Serena.  There were lots of different ways to go with the outfit that would represent Serena.  I opted for a jumpsuit with a sequin bomber jacket, long necklaces, high heels and a hat.  Totally mixed up styles that create one look that is all Serena.  Shopping for Serena’s look was fun!  Check out this Polyvore board created for Serena’s look.

Blair’s style is very classic and preppy.  She always looks completely put together and polished and her clothing reflects that.  Through my search on Google, it seems she always wears skirts or dresses.  I took her style to have a little bit of a girly-ness to it and of course an upscale vibe.  So when I started shopping for the look for the model that would reflect Blair’s style, I knew I wanted something that would both portray the character on Gossip Girl as well as be something appropriate for a high school senior.  And of course something all the photographers attending this workshop would love and something that would look great in photos!!

I came across this amazing striped skirt with a little unique ruffle detail giving it a classic yet girly look.  Pairing it with a white shirt (classic) and bold jewelry would complete the look.  By adding the pops of color in the accessories and the jewelry, it would be fun and youthful and a little bit preppy.  What preppy style doesn’t have color? 🙂  I wanted to express the same in the hair and the makeup so I came across some images on Pinterest that reflecting what I wanted in the makeup…something fun, fresh and bold!  Check out this inspiration board below created with Polyvore for the look of Blair.

Stay Tuned to the Blog next Friday for photos from the workshop that reflect what clothes the models actually wore! 🙂  Yes, there are times when you have all the right plans but those go out the window when the airline loses your luggage and you have to go shopping for new clothes for your models! 🙂  It was a MAKE IT WORK moment!  Stay tuned to see how it turned out!
xoxo,
Leslie
