Last week we touched on layering with ponchos as they are a big trend this fall.  This week we are going to continue the layering theme and showcase how you can layer like a pro!

Layering adds a visual interest to your photos and allows you to easily change up a look by removing or adding a layer.  So layers are perfect for fall and for senior photo sessions!  But how do you add layers without adding bulk?

Here are some tips to share with your seniors on adding layers perfectly for photos:

•  Start with the basics – Layering is made easy when you start with basic items such as tshirts, jeans or leggings
• Add one item at a time – by adding items then checking yourself in the mirror you can see how it is affecting the overall look.  If you have added too many, remove one or more to achieve the perfect look.
• Create Balance – balance is the key to not looking like you have too many clothes on (and if you are a Friends fan, you will remember the episode where Joey puts on every thing Chandler owns and how bulky he looked! Ha!  We don’t want that!)  If you have something fuller on top then pair it with something more fitted on the bottom and vice versa.  Keep proportions balanced!
• Mix Materials – mixing different textures creates a more well rounded look.  Pair a chunky sweater with a more delicate fabric such as silk.  Add leather and lace, two fabrics that don’t seem to go together but create a unique look together.
• Add pops of color – accessories such as scarves, jewelry, hats and more can be a great opportunity to add a pop with color.  Keep your outfit in a more neutral tone then pop it with a bright accessory.
