Fashion is definitely a key part in planning a photo shoot, especially a concept shoot!  The clothes help portray the concept and tell the story of your idea.  Today’s Senior Style Post is all about how you can create your own fashion for a winter concept shoot.

Madison Luikens of Madison Cary is our Fashion Contributor and she created a beautiful winter concept shoot by making her own fashion to go with her concept!  Below she shares all about the shoot as well as how she created the fabulous skirts!  Thanks for sharing Madison!!

Brief Description of the Session you are submitting…a winter wonderland themed creative shoot.

What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?  ice, dead trees, winter, white, glitter, snow.

Where did this photo shoot take place?  a foresty area in the middle of town (which is rare to find out here in this west texas desert!)

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot? this shoot idea came together with the help of my hair + makeup team. I pictured doing a winter white, ice queen shoot full of glitter, ethereal clothing and a stark location. my hair stylist came up with all of the styles + head pieces herself – she is going to enter them in the national hair competition coming up next month! I let my makeup artist take free reign—all I said was “GLITTER”, and she transformed these senior beauties into the winter ice queens you see!

What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?  canon 5d mark III, 50 mm 1.2

What time of day were these taken?  4:30/5 CST – just before sunset!

What is your favorite thing about this session?  the hair, makeup + wardrobe. the clothing was a mix from the senior’s personal outfits, a few pieces from our local boutique, le marché, and some tulle skirts I made myself.

HOW TO MAKE THE SKIRTS:

–       I got the idea for the tulle skirts from my nieces birthday party—we made short pink + purple tutus for all the little girls! same principles, with a floor-length skirt in mind.

–       what you need: scissors, measuring tape, a variety of tulle in complementary colors, 1inch thick ribbon.

–       the tedious part: measure and cut the tulle to your desired length. for fullness + fashioning the tulle into a skirt, you will need to make sure each tulle section is at your desired skirt length when folded in half. in this case, mine were floor length. you will also cut your ribbon length to act as the waist band. I kept it fairly long in order to tie a pretty bow in the back.

–       1) once all of your tulle is cut, fold it in half and hold the loop end under the ribbon.

–       2) pull the loop over the ribbon.

–       3) pull the tulle through the loop.

–       4) pull to tighten.

–       repeat these steps with alternating tulle colors until you reach your desired fullness of your tulle skirt.

–       the spacing of the tulle sections will also depend on how full you’d like your skirt to be. I placed each tulle section directly next to the other for maximum fullness, in order to exude the ethereal + mystical look I was wanting to achieve.

–       WORD OF CAUTION: if you are using glittered tulle, be sure to work in a space you don’t mine dousing in glitter. IT GETS EVERYWHERE! (hubby wasn’t too happy about that :-/ hehe)
