Making a rep shoot fun and like a party is one way to make your reps experience like no other!  Misti Davis of Pink Fly Photography did just that and the results are beautiful photos and reps that are now great friends.  I can’t imagine that these girls have any excuse not to talk up Pink Fly to all of their friends!!

Below, Misti shares a little about her rep shoot and her rep program.  Be sure to check it out below and check out Misti’s other beautiful work on her blog.  And for more from this shoot, click here to watch the video.  Thanks for sharing Misti!  P.S.  Can I be one of your reps?  It just looks like so much fun! 🙂

How many years have you done rep programs for your senior photography business?

This is my 3rd year photographing seniors and doing a rep program.

What is something new that you are doing this year with your rep program?

Oh my gosh….pretty much everything!  I attended the Prime Workshop in Vegas and it changed the way I always thought rep programs should be.  I made it more of an experience this year where all of my models got together for an editorial and fun styled shoot.  Something they would otherwise not have the opportunity to do.  Then we had a party where they got to bring friends and see their images for the first time.

Do you do individual rep shoots for each girl or a group rep shoot?

Definitely a group shoot.  I used to do individual and this is way more fun and the girls become friends.  It’s like they’re part of a club.

Was there a theme or concept for your rep shoot?

We did 3 style concepts.  I had a “rock”, “soft” and “country” look for each of them.  I think though next year I’ll just do 2 because with that many girls changing 3 outfits, hairstyles and touching up makeup it took up a lot of time where I could be shooting.

How many reps do you have from how many different schools?

I have 8 reps from 5 schools.

Where did this shoot take place?

We did the rock in the back of a flour mill building and the country and soft looks were at a family farm that I had once photographed a girl and her horse at.

What time of day did this shoot take place?

Hair and makeup started at 1:00 and then we started shooting around 3:00 and went until 8:00.  It was a long day but we topped it off with some yummy pizza and lots of giggling. 🙂

What equipment was used for this shoot?

Unfortunately my newest baby, 5D Mark III hadn’t arrived yet (it came the week after…grrrrr) so I used my Canon 5D with my 24-70L and 50 1.2L

What props were used and where did they come from?

For the rock look I borrowed a bunch of my mom’s old records, my husband had those two ridiculously large speakers in our garage and we decided we had to have some headphones so I got those from the wonderful TJ Maxx for super cheap.

For the country one I had an acoustic guitar (that I still need to learn to play) and then got some mason jars from Wallie World and tied wraphia around them.

And for the soft look I got the old suitcases, candle stick holders and quilt from an amazing flea market in Canton, TX.  If you’re from Texas then you know how awesome it truly is.

How did you choose your reps?

The girls applied and I interviewed them to make sure we’d be a good fit.  I chose girls based on morals, personality, involvement in school, and of course even those with a certain “look” that I wanted for the session.

What does each girl receive for being a rep?

Each of my models received a special model t-shirt and rep cards to hand out to friends.  They also have incentives where they can earn points to use like cash if they have friends that book me.

What tips would you give other photographers who want to implement a rep program?

It sounds cliché but I’d say to really have fun with it.  You want them to LOVE you and promote you and so make it fun for them so that they’ll want to.  They should feel special and you should definitely do what you can to keep in touch with them and do things for them throughout the year. They need reminders of how special they are to your business.
