Jamie Olsen of Jamie Olsen Photography in Omaha too this teen on a trip around the city to capture these beautiful images.  Inspired by this senior’s favorite book, Oh the Places We Will Go, by Dr. Seuss, Jamie knew that downtown Omaha would give her the perfect backdrop to highlight this teen’s chic style.

Jamie shared with us the behind the scenes of this photo shoot in the interview below.  Be sure to check it out along with Jamie’s other work on her website.  Thanks for sharing Jamie!

What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?

After meeting with Jenni, I was immediately inspired by her, her wardrobe, and her confidence.  Her favorite book is,”Oh the Places” by Dr. Suess and I knew right there I wanted to capture her spirit in the heart of downtown Omaha as a “city chic” kindof gal!!

Where did this photo shoot take place?

This shoot took place in the Old Market, downtown Omaha, NE.  The building structures are beautiful and the possibilities are endless when it comes to creativity!!  We started the session around 9:00 am.

Did you collaborate with this senior on the wardrobe for the session?

I did!!  I like to meet with my seniors as a consultation to see their wardrobe, meet with their family, get them to know me and feel comfortable when it comes time for their sessions.   After I see their wardrobe I can get a better picture on how to photograph each piece in each setting.  I immediately go into concept mode after meeting my seniors!!   I like to be prepared and have a direction for each session.

What camera, lens and equipment was used in this photo shoot?

I used my Canon 5d mkii with my 85mm, 50mm and 24-100L

What time of day was this shot?

This session was shot around 9:00am.  I know that downtown will not be as hectic and flooded with people around that time.

Can you share with us any post processing techniques you used when editing this session?

I uses CS5 and Lightroom to edit this session.  Keeping it very simple and fresh.

What is your favorite thing about these photos?

Everything!!!  I love that we stepped into a market and captured what was going on in the background!!  Her photos portray travel which is something of what her favorite book means.  A journey!

What do you want these photos to convey about this senior and about your photography business?

Jenni has style!  As soon as I met her, I knew we would work great together.  I love being inspired by others and she definitely inspired me.  My goal is to bring out their inner beauty and capture that on camera for them to see.  As a senior, this is a moment, a memory and such an important time to document as they are heading out on their own.  I want to create a story with their memories from high school and pull in those little things that have made them who they are.  My job is to bring out their personality and let them express themselves as seniors!

I love to play with different compositions as I shoot and want to offer a creative vibe.  And I ultimately want my seniors to love the experience they had with me and feel good about what we captured.

What is one tip about senior portrait photography that you can share with other photographers?

Offer a senior rep program!! Having senior reps are a great way to market YOU and YOUR business and raise awareness that YOU are in the market.   Let’s face it, teenagers can be a big influence.  Get to know your seniors throughout the session because as time goes on you will find them more natural.  Guide them with posing by actually doing it!!  Eventually they will loosen up and you can capture them being themselves!!  Laugh and have fun!!

Tell me a little about you…Where are you from? How did you get into photography? What is your favorite thing about photographing seniors? ETC.

My favorite thing about photographing seniors is capturing a journey.  Showing them how beautiful they are along the way and letting their personalities shine!

Born and rasied in Omaha, NE, I am a wife to a wonderful husband and a momma to 6 year old twins, a 4 year old and a nine month old.  My little ones are hands down my inspiration and very much the reason why I love doing what I do!   I am determined to learn all I can about photography and better myself along the way.  Along this journey is trial and error, successes and failures and sometimes it’s the best way to learn for me.  I love that I can show my creative side through photography.  I found that being true to yourself is the best motivator you can have!
