How long have you been in business?  I started my business in 2010, so over 2 years!

What percentage of your business is seniors?  Over half of my business is seniors.

What do you think makes a perfect senior session?  A confident senior who is beautiful, most importantly on the inside.  Perfect buttery sunlight and gorgeous scenery helps too 🙂

What do you love most about photographing seniors?  I love getting to know each and every client on a personal level: their interests, activities, etc.  Meeting new people and connecting with them is so rewarding!

What would you say is the biggest challenge in your business?  The biggest challenge I’ve faced so far in the senior portrait industry (at least here in Maryland) is portraying the value of senior portrait photography.  A quality product with a refreshing and gratifying experience is an investment, and so many seniors and their parents here are still discovering that.

Describe your photography style?  Natural, clean, bright, and happy.  I do my best to bring out each senior’s personality during our shoots, and I edit very minimally in post production.  My goal is to capture the natural beauty of every client, and I feel heavy editing detracts from that.

What motivates or inspires you in your photography?  Receiving those e-mails, calls, and messages from happy clients is absolutely the best feeling in this business, and I am motivated each session to provide unique, quality products that the seniors and their family will cherish and feel proud of.  I look to fashion magazines and clothing advertisements for inspiration regarding poses, composition, editing, etc.

Twenty Questions Game…Just for fun!

Where are you from/live?  Baltimore, MD

Married?  No, but I’ve been dating a great guy for over 3 years!

Kids? Not yet!

What are their ages? NA

Nikon or Cannon?  I love my Nikon D700.  Nikon girl through and through.

What kind of camera bag do you carry?  Kelly Moore Classic Bag in Teal

Favorite music to edit to?  Well, Pandora is always on, but it depends on what station I’m in the mood for.  I go between Indie, Rap/Hip Hop, Country, and Folk depending on my mood.  I really love most music!

Favorite Photoshop Action?  I hardly use Actions anymore!  I try to keep all of my color correction in Lightroom and use the Split Tones to come up with my personal color styles.  Of course, I do bring images into Photoshop for skin retouching and other editing when the image needs it, but I try to streamline my editing process as much as possible.

A photographer that inspires you?  Without a doubt, Michelle Moore.

Favorite Food?  This is such a tough one, I’m a total foodie!  But I have to say, I could never turn down a slice of pizza.

Favorite place to shop?  Hands down, anthropologie.

Favorite drink at Starbucks?  Green Tea Chai Latte

Favorite Guilty Pleasure?  Facebook

Favorite memory from when you were a senior?  I played field hockey and lacrosse in high school, and my favorite memories from high school (especially when I was a senior) were being part of a great team of girls who shared a common interest and had a lot of fun together while out on the fields striving for a victory and well-played game.

Favorite Quote or Saying?  I don’t have one really.

Favorite Workshop or photography event you have attended?  I enjoy getting together with local photographers and networking and being able to talk “photography”.

Favorite Magazine?  People — maybe that should be included in my guilty pleasures answer?  Hehe.

Favorite Vacation Spot?  Last winter, I was able to spend a week skiing out west in Park City with my boyfriend’s family.  It was a great experience!

I have been following Harper for the better part of a year. I love how simple her images are, though they speak volumes in art and how she sets her clients at ease. Keep up the good work.
