2014-08-22_00152014-08-22_00192014-08-22_0017Adding off camera lighting to your senior portrait photography can take a normal image and amp it up!  Sports photos are perfect for adding OCF.  In this shoot below, the senior loves hockey so Christene Logesky of Andrw and Chrissy Photography knew that hockey photos at night with OCF would be a perfect way to showcase this senior’s passion for his sport!

Check out this fun guy session full of style and sports below and read what Christene had to share about this shoot!  Thanks for sharing your work with Seniorologie!

What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?
We were inspired by lots of off camera flash work we see. We are loving getting to know OCF and when Brandon mentioned he played hockey we immediately thought of OCF. We were aiming for a “bad” look to it rather than something that just says “I play sports”.

Where did this photo shoot take place?
Downtown Greensburg and University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?
Yes. We met with Brandon for almost 2 hours planning out is outfits, locations, and concepts. He, unlike most boys, was very excited to coordinate his session!

What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?
d600 & d700
70-200 2.8
sb900
Icelight

What time of day were these taken?
7pm and 9pm

2014-08-22_00332014-08-22_0036Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?

Andrew and I shoot with the expo disc and really believe because of that we have hardly ANY editing to do. We never do more than a sharpen and a few skin touch ups in photoshop.. Life is EASY now. Occasionally we see a picture that calls for something different and we will do more PS to it.

What is your favorite thing about this session?
Brandon! He was unlike any boy I have ever worked with! He was such a natural, he knew exactly what we were saying when posing and had so much fun. I love the nighttime pictures the most because I feel they are different than most things I see. That is what we try and aim for!

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
This particular senior I feel is so style savy and just LOVED having his pictures taken. Most seniors come in thinking senior pictures can’t be fun and he was one of them. Our goal is to meet with every senior, get to know them and try and reflect who they are so the whole process is enjoyable to them! Brandon was the perfect example of that! He truly enjoyed his session because it was all built around who he was!

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
GET TO KNOW THE SENIOR! Don’t just pose each senior and keep things basic. Learn who they are and what they love to do and try to convey that. Not only does it make them unique but then they know you care about them and hat they like. They loosen up and have a blast because it is something they love to do!
