Some of the most inspiring photo shoots are ones that focus solely on the subject.  Showcasing your client as they are so that the person viewing the photos gets a glimpse at who the senior truly is makes for the perfect senior photo shoot.

“I wanted this shoot to be about her and the surroundings to be secondary,” said Alicia of Alicia Haskew Photography in Tallahassee, Florida.

Check out this beautiful session below and read what Alicia had to share about it.  Thanks for sharing your work with Seniorologie Alicia!

What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?
Megan inspired me. She is a natural beauty. She loves to go barefoot- which she did, the entire shoot! She loves the water, country music, and having fun with friends. I wanted this shoot to be about her, and the surroundings to be secondary. Even if we did this shoot downtown, I guarantee that she would be barefoot!

Where did this photo shoot take place?
This shoot took place at Bradley’s Pond, in Tallahassee, FL.

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?
Yes, we worked with a local boutique, Spriggs Laid Back Luxe, to style her wardrobe. This was my first time working with them, and I loved the final results. They took care of the outfits and accessories to reflect Megan’s laid back, boho style.

What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?
I used my Canon 5D Mark ii, with a 24-70, and a 5-in-1 reflector on the silver side.

What time of day were these taken?
Dusk. It was about 7:00pm

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
I am a big fan of using frequency separation for skin. You can adjust just how much is used, and dial it back to keep it natural. I like to keep my photos on the warmer side, but the purple one, was pretty limited as far as post processing goes, and is a lot cooler than I normally go, but I love it!

What is your favorite thing about this session?
The image where she is among the purple flowers is my absolute favorite. I held a flower in front of my lens, and shot through to her, and I couldn’t be more pleased with how it turned out.

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
I want the session to convey her beauty, her natural ease in front of the camera, and her beautiful smile! I hope you can see that my style of photography is natural, and beautiful. I don’t just do candids, and ask my client just to do something, and capture it. I coach them through posing, facial expressions, hand placement, etc. You may even see me rolling around in the grass to get the perfect shot! (Yes, I really did that!)

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
Because everyone is a photographer these days, you have to stand out. I have a relationship with my seniors. It’s not over after I deliver the products. If I have a photo shoot with one of my partners, I always ask if one of them can come along. I like to keep them included in the entire process, listen to their ideas, and treat them with respect. They are a friend to me by the end of it all, and I love that!

Just WOW. They don’t take Senior Photos like they used to. Alicia Haskew continues to capture personality and real life in her work, so that these young people will look back one day at these gorgeous self-!images and see so much more than a cap and gown…a senior ring. This is a prime time in their lives, when they are so fresh and full of the energy needed to launch themselves into the world. Alicia somehow catches this through her camera’s eye. What magic!
