Combining a senior’s home which is set on a beautiful farm with her love of fashion is exactly what Amberly of Amberly Gfeller Photography in Kansas did for this senior session.

“I was inspired by my senior’s great sense of fashion, love for hair and makeup, as well as the fact that she lives on a farm in the country,” said Amberly.  “I wanted to combine the two worlds together while still sticking to her style.”

What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?
I was inspired by my senior’s great sense of fashion, love for makeup and hair, as well as the fact that she lives on a farm in the country. I wanted to combine the two worlds together while still sticking to her style.

Where did this photo shoot take place?
This photo shoot took place in an old Western Kansas town about five miles from the seniors home. I normally have seniors come to me, but I wanted to drive 45 miles to Russell Springs, a historic town with a population of about 50 people. I thought her style, wardrobe, and personality would fit well in this setting. Plus, it was close to where she has grown up.
What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?
Canon 60D with a Cannon Zoom Lens 70-200mm 2.8L

What time of day were these taken?
5:00-7:00 PM Central Time

What is your favorite thing about this session?
My favorite thing about this session was my clients awesome outfit selections. She was also willing to try anything to get the perfect shot. She loved the more natural looks which have always been my favorite.

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
I want others to see her sense of style and her natural look. I also want viewers to see the bright and crisp colors that show off her eyes, and glowing skin.

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
Always ask the senior what his or her vision is before beginning the shoot. As photographers we always have a vision but it might not be what our client is looking for. We have to remember who will be purchasing the prints and whose personality the pictures should be showing. Make sure they are comfortable with what they are doing, how they are posing, and if they like the same scenery you do.
