One of the best things we can do as senior photographers is to find out about our clients.  By getting to know them before their session, we can create an experience that is special to each client.

“The senior’s love and appreciation of simplicity and pretty details was showcased all throughout this shoot,” said Aubry Boonstra of Aubry Boonstra Photography in Michigan.  “We also incorporated a favorite blue vintage dress.”

I adore soft, dreamy light and let that entirely inspire my creativity throughout this shoot. I worked closely with this senior to bring her vision to life and hand selected the perfect locations to match her style and personality.

Where did this photo shoot take place?

Coral, Michigan

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?

Absolutely! This time in a senior’s life is so special and these few hours I get with them are all about showcasing who they are as a person and really letting that radiate through in the images they receive. It’s such a beautiful thing to collaborate and capture who they are, truly. For this shoot, our styles were very similar and we worked closely to let her personality shine with the looks she loved and the locations to perfect it.

VSCO LR Presets & PS

What is your favorite thing about this session?

My favorite thing about this session was the authenticity I captured from her as well as the creamy tones, dreamy light and details!

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?

The best part about my job is making these seniors feel so beautiful and yet completely, uniquely themselves. I love getting to know them on a personal level so that I am able to make a connection with them that makes their senior session so memorable. That’s what it’s all about. This session was just so adorable and way. too. much. fun.

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?

I think seniors especially need to know and be reassured that this time is all about them. Be completely open to  their suggestions and ideas. Get to know them, what do they love, what do they thrive in? Start there and then you can combine creativity with their vision and make it happen.
