Sometimes, as soon as you meet a senior client or senior model, you are instantly flooded with ideas for that persons session.  That is what happened for Brandi Scarbrough of Brandi Kristina Photography in Lexington, Kentucky!

“When I met with Lindsay, I immediately knew I wanted to do something lightly retro/vintage,” Brandi said.  “Her hair and skin complexion reminded me of Marilyn Monroe so I told my makeup artist I wanted her look to be modeled after old hollywood.”

Check out this beautiful senior session below and read what Brandi had to share about it!  Thanks for sharing your work with Seniorologie Brandi!

What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?
When I met with Lindsay I immediately knew I wanted to so something lightly retro/vintage. Her hair and skin complexion reminded me of Marilyn Monroe and I told my makeup artist that I wanted her look to be modeled after old hollywood.

Where did this photo shoot take place?
At my home studio and also my backyard (I live on a farm).

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?
Yes! I collaborate with all of my seniors. Lindsay was so fun and easy to work with. She had SO many ideas and I just LOVED this white dress she brought to our shoot.

What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?
Canon 5D Classic
Canon 85 mm 1.8
Expodisc

What time of day were these taken?
2 hours before sunset

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
My number one goal is to get a clean SOOC image. I don’t want to spend a lot of time color correcting post processing. I truly owe this to my expo disc. I use it almost exclusively for white balance and it works wonders. Since I work with a pro makeup artist I do hardly any skin smoothing. I usually bump the contrast and brightness a tad, and take a little red out of the skin.

What is your favorite thing about this session?
I loved how well her her, outfit and location came together. I swear she was made for this location. I love the contrast between the dead grass and her white dress. It’s winter here in lexington, KY so we really have to find ways to make the deadness of winter work.

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
I love working with this age group. I find that even though they take a lot of pictures of themselves (selfies!), they are not fully confident people. They are still young and finding themselves. I absolutely love the transformation my seniors go through during a session with me. I actually like to call it an experience and not a session. It all starts with professional hair and makeup and it ends with me making them look their absolute best. I want them to feel more confident after they leave a session with me and feel like they can take over the world. They are full of so much potential and I don’t even want them to forget that.

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
Learn to be comfortable with them. When I first started shooting seniors I had not been in business very long and I got very nervous before sessions and often times felt very awkward with clients. That has since passed (though I still get nervous) and I find that I love interacting with my clients. Since I started using a professional makeup and hair artist i find that my clients have SO much more confidence on camera. They KNOW that they look good and they don’t have to worry about how their hair/makeup looks on camera. They all literally look like little models and it truly comes across in camera.
