Winter is a magical time of year.  There is something about the snow that reminds me of a fairy tale.  And this photo shoot looks very much like something out of a fairy tale or movie!

Camilla Binks of Camilla Photography says that this senior grew up riding horses so they knew they had to incorporate horses somehow.  With clothes from a local designer, the shoot took on a very Downtown Abbey feel.

What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?
My inspiration for this shoot was the clothing.  It definitely comes with it’s own “mood”.

Where did this photo shoot take place?
On a short little trail up Mueller Park Canyon in Bountiful Utah

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?
Yes

What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?
Canon 5D Mark II
Canon 70-200 2.8

What time of day were these taken?
2pm

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
There was already a lot of haze and softness achieved in camera but I wanted to enhance that in post so I used color layers and changed the blending mode to “screen” to create even more pretty “haze”.

What is your favorite thing about this session?
The subject, Dani.  She was so comfortable in front of the camera and made my job so very easy.

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
We are forced to view amazing images in fashion magazines all the time and it’s hard to not compare ourselves to these unrealistic women.  I want all girls to have the chance to get their hair and makeup professionally done (which Dani did) and have the chance to have a “fashion style” shoot in beautiful light and feel great about themselves.  They can hold their own with any model in any magazine no matter what size or shape they are.

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
Photographing seniors is the greatest job ever!  For the most part the seniors I work with are craving something a little daring and fashion forward and are willing to put in the time and preparation to make a great shoot.  Giving them proper guidance before the shoot and showing them what is possible will help your seniors think outside the box and together you can come up with something truly amazing while staying true to the clients personality. Use Pinterest to your advantage and make sure your blog stays updated with your most daring and fashion forward images.
