How do you know when you should cancel a session due to weather?  It is a problem we all face from time to time.  When do you press on and when do you cancel?

In this beautiful session below, photographer Carmen Stansberry of Chrysalis Photography says they debated on whether to cancel.  “This session was on a warm stormy evening; we almost cancelled the session but went with it and the light was gorgeous,” said Carmen.

As you can tell from the session below sometimes the weather works in our favor and the results are amazing!  Check out what else Carmen had to share about this session.  Thanks for sharing your work with Seniorologie Carmen!

What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?
My inspiration was fun, preppy all-American girl.

Where did this photo shoot take place?
Excelsior, MN

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?
We met before the shoot to discuss the styling. The denim jacket with the yellow platforms are perfection! The denim shirt and red schoolgirl plaid skirt in front of the old red ticketing station came together as I envisioned. Her Kate Spade navy earrings topped off the last outfit giving it a nautical feel in front of the canoe rack.

What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?
Canon 5D Classic and Canon 85 1.2, White Reflector

What time of day were these taken?
Golden Hour

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
I cull in Lightroom then skin retouching, curves, some dodging and burning and sharpen in Photoshop!

What is your favorite thing about this session?
My favorite thing about this session is that it shines through in the photos how much fun we had that evening. Sophie loved changing up her looks and had a lot of fun in front of the camera. This resulted in natural smiles and expressions that she and her family were thrilled with during her Premier Session.

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
My style is fun and fashionable; I love my girls to feel like glamorous models and for them to have a memorable experience!

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
I like to get to know my seniors face to face before their session so the evening of the session we start off on the right foot while the light is good and no time is wasted. They are at ease because we have already connected and they know exactly what to expect from me and the session! I have found they are always a little concerned they won’t know how to pose or they will feel awkward and I reassure them I will tell them exactly what to do and this always makes them feel more comfortable. They always leave the pre-consult feeling at ease and excited for their upcoming shoot.
