Many clients as what the best time of the year is for their senior photo shoot.  A popular time for some is spring and summer.  However, autumn is an equally great time to have senior photos taken and can allow your photos to be a bit different from the others.

“I wanted to give this senior a different look than what everyone at her school was doing.  Most of the seniors do summer sessions, but I wanted her to stand out from the rest,” said Courtney Ritchey of Courtney Ritchey Photography in Tennessee.

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
I use lightroom for basic coloring and depth then move into photoshop where I smooth out blemishes and create that bold look.

What is your favorite thing about this session?
I LOVE backlit photography! Creating dreamy looks while still making the image all about her makes me so giddy!

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
I want my seniors to just let lose and and have fun! Bringing out their inner beauty will make their images shine more than than know.

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
Be honest with your client. I hold nothing back. If they are in some weird pose talk to them and tell what they are doing wrong. Nothing stinks worse is that you feel embarrassed, won’t open up and they get their images back and are disappointed. Remember you do this everyday and they do not, so they have no idea how to stand, pose or smile correctly.
