Senior clients that have a great sense of style make the photo session that much more fun! You get to showcase the seniors different styles and really capture what that senior is all about.
In this stylish shoot below, photographer Dasha of Dasha Denger Photography said, “When I met Olivia and her mom during our senior meeting, my first thought was, ‘wow this girl has style!’ I love working with clients that love to dress up and are true fashionistas thru and thru.”

What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?
Knowing how amazing Olivia’s fashion style is I realized I’d need some gorgeous, natural park backgrounds for some of her softer, hippie outfits. For the urban looks I didn’t know what she’d wear that day so I thought given her model physic and gorgeous blonde hair putting her in light colored, modern urban setting like a brick apartment building with a fire escape would be so perfect!
Where did this photo shoot take place?
Urban setting was shot Downtown Davenport, IA around Iowa St./6th street around 3/4pm in the afternoon with the light getting just low enough to make her hair light up with soft and warm back-lit tones!
The nature setting was shot at Vander Veer Park in Davenport, IA also during the later afternoon time with a soft low sun perfect for back-lighting her gorgeous blonde hair!
For her B&W sessions I just use natural light in front of a simple black background provided by my 40″ reflector (black side)
Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?
Not at all, Olivia is an amazing stylist herself and picked all of her outfits on her own with only the session location to give her hints of what would look best! She’s incredible!
What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?
For this shoot, and for all my sessions, I used my Canon 6D body with a 85mm f/1.2 lens set to around f/2 in natural automatic color balance format.

What time of day were these taken?
late afternoon 3/4PM
Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
For this session, as for all my sessions, I use minimum editing on the entire image. I can’t say I spent a lot of time editing her face because I knew she had professional hair/makeup done before she arrived. Editing the color balance and sharpness was pretty much my only work on the session. I definitely kept in mind the cropping and leaving plenty of space on all the images for printing.
What is your favorite thing about this session?
I would say her gorgeous blonde hair and fashion style. I shoot a lot of High Fashion Photography in my personal time and since her look is a very “model” I love her ability to rock her outfits both in full body images and in close ups. Olivia was also SO amazing at taking direction when it came to posing, hardly had to tell her to give me “sass” – she was always on top of it!
What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
I want people to see that when I work with my seniors I really want to make sure they feel comfortable but also will always ROCK their inner model! I love working with senior girls of all shapes and sizes because I see their true beauty when I talk to them during our session. I have a very natural, light and “fluffy” look to my images due to my shallow-depth-of-field shooting style and minimal editing.
What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
I would say definitely pay attention to the light and the clients face. Make sure the light is always flawless on all the shots. Always pay attention to their faces and be sure when they look uncomfortable or “not feeling” the pose you can quickly re-navigate them to something effortlessly flawless! Don’t get stuck shooting the same pose if your client wont move, have them relax and propose a new fun pose.
I have learned a lot since I began my business in 2009 about posing, lighting & composition. Just give yourself time and don’t give up!
