A bright sunny personality is one thing that is always fun to photograph.  And when you can get a senior with a carefree, fun spirit in the beautiful outdoors it is magic.

“We wanted a fresh, outdoorsy, bright sunny skies, natural Oregon  outdoor look,” said Dawn Piebenga of Dawn Photography in Eugene, Oregon.  “Taylor is such a carefree, fun spirit, and I wanted that to radiate in her photos.”

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?
Taylor and I discussed different outfit options, she wanted a bohemian, carefree, fun look. She also completely DIY’d her floral crown! It was so fun to see her creativity shine throughout her shoot.

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
I really love the look of film, getting that nostalgic rich color look without over saturating. So I use VSCO film presets, and then tweak the lighting a bit and add some summer warmth.

What is your favorite thing about this session?
I love the backdrops we found for Taylor’s senior shoot, from the HUGE tree to the colorful local nursery. It was so much fun to capture Taylor in such natural areas, her beauty just radiated!

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
I want this session to convey that my style of photography is all about being your best self! I want to make every senior feel gorgeous, and fun! I want these seniors to look back on themselves and love their photos, and see how happy they were in their days before graduating high school!

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
Don’t rush!! Take the time to make the senior feel comfortable, and be silly with them! If you ask them to walk, show them how to first. If you ask them to sit, sit down first. I’ve noticed seniors feel so much more comfortable if you are doing the poses with them and having fun and laughing together. It creates so much more trust! So take the time to make them feel comfortable.
