When a senior moves to a new town right before her senior year, it is a huge transition.  So to be able to come back to where she grew up, made this senior session very special.

“This session was one of my Class of 2015 seniors,” said Deanna Hassler of Deanna Kay Photography.  “She grew up here in the wine country and had recently moved away.  She wanted to come back home for her senior session.”

Check out this beautiful senior session below and read what else Deanna had to say about it.  Thanks for sharing your work with Seniorologie Deanna!!

What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?
My inspiration for this session was based on what my senior had in mind. She really wanted the wine country look because she had recently moved away right before her senior year and wanted what felt like home to her.

Where did this photo shoot take place?
This session took place on a local luxury vineyard hotel grounds. Since she grew up here in our beautiful wine country, this location was perfect!

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?
I didn’t do much collaborating with her for this shoot. We discussed a little about what she would be wearing and just kind of went with it.

What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?
Canon 6D
50 mm f/1.8
35 mm f/1.4

What time of day were these taken?
These were taken about an hour before sunset.

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
I like to keep my post-processing minimal. I don’t use any presets or actions. I will only use Lightroom unless I need to correct something that can only be done in Photoshop.

What is your favorite thing about this session?
My favorite thing about this session is the variety in it. There were so many little spots at this location that I could have gone for hours shooting her! It made it so fun.

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
I want this session to be an experience that my senior will remember. I want her to remember where she lived, where she grew up and even though she is moving to somewhere that is completely different than what she is used to she will always be a part of here, her home. I want these memories to serve as a reminder that you can make memories wherever you go and will be cherished forever.

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
My biggest tip would be have fun with them and make them feel comfortable and beautiful. Constantly compliment them, make them laugh, capture their true self. They will walk away with an experience they will talk about forever.

Senior Inspiration – {Deanna Kay Photography}

  1. Kristen Quilty says:

If you live in or near Sonoma County, Deanna Kay Photography’s own, Deanna Kay is the best! She made the seniors feel comfortable, loosened them up and had great connections with them. I wouldn’t choose anyone else! In fact, she will be doing destination shots for my boys at our new home away from Somoma County. Thanks, Deanna, you’re the BEST! ❤️
