Showcasing your senior client is the most important thing you can do when photographing them.  Letting their beauty come through and making it all about them is a great way to make sure that you are giving the client what they want as well as making mom happy!

Below is a beautiful senior session by Jennifer Rickard of Four J Photography in Lafayette, Louisiana that showcases the senior as well as incorporating the beautiful nature of the location where the shoot took place all while appealing to the senior and her family!

What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?
For this session, I wanted to capture a fun, classic senior session that would appeal to both seniors and their families in my area. I aimed to capture some beauty shots as well as incorporate the beautiful nature of this particular location.

Where did this photo shoot take place?
The location for this shoot was somewhere I had spent a lot of time lately- a local ballpark and recreation area.  While my son was practicing baseball, I was scoping out new photo spots. When I saw the creek, tire swing, and tree line, I knew I wanted to do a shoot here!

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?
We did some consulting on her outfit beforehand via phone and emails.

What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?
The camera used is a Nikon D7000. Lenses used were a Nikon 50 mm/f1.8G and Sigma 24-70mm/f2.8.  I also used off camera flash, a Nikon speed light SB-900 with a diffuser.

What time of day were these taken?
Evening, 1 hour before sunset.

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
I edited these images using LR4. Lighting and white balance corrections as well as some minor contrast and beauty enhancements were done also. A few (low opacity) light flares were added in Photoshop Elements 10.

What is your favorite thing about this session?
I loved everything about this session! My subject was so sweet and easy to work with.  I love shooting at dusk and this location provided especially nice light. There was also a light breeze that evening- which provided some extra drama!

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
I strive to provide vibrant, clean, unique images that truly capture the subject and their personality.  I want each senior I work with to feel beautiful, stunning, and perfect!

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
If I have learned anything from working with seniors is that they LOVE to see what their images are looking like during the session. I frequently show in-camera images to my clients. It gives them confidence and then they start to relax and that is when they can truly shine!
