Prom dresses are always a great choice for a senior photo shoot!  Seniors spend a lot of time picking out the perfect dress and the one they choose shows a lot about their style.  So why not use it as one of the outfits for their senior shoot.  Not only will they get to wear the dress again, but mom will be happy that it was worth the expense! 🙂

Check out this beautiful shoot below where Hannah Morrill of Hannah Morrill Photography incorporated a modern prom dress with vintage props to create a fancy, classy, vintage shoot.

What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?
My mom has always had these vintage cameras that she got when she also had a photography business. Now they just set around in her office, so why not use this amazing prop right in my own home?! Abbey came to me about modeling for me, and after seeing her prom dress, I knew right then what I was going for in this shoot. That classy and vintage feel!

Where did this photo shoot take place?
This shoot took place in my small hometown, down by the river. It was pretty dirty down there, but we made it work!

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?
When I saw Abbey’s prom dress, I asked her if she still had it and if she would be fine with wearing it around for a couple hours! I let her do hair and makeup however she wanted to.

What time of day were these taken?
4-6 pm

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
Lightroom and music!

What is your favorite thing about this session?
The cameras, and that dress! The dress is so beautiful, and she rocked it. She also played off “using” and playing with the cameras well. 😉

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
My senior photography style is very laid back. I don’t make the seniors do anything they don’t want to do, I make them do something they WOULD do. Even when it’s modeling shoots like this with a idea in my head, I want them to act natural no matter what, no odd poses or something that is very uncomfortable to them!

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
Being 18 years-old its very easy for me to get along with the seniors. Now, I know not every photographer is the same age as me, but you don’t have to be! Just ACT like you are their age. All you got to do is crack a couple jokes, and put yourself in their shoes!
