Many of us use Pinterest as a way to gain inspiration for our photography, whether that be by pinning unique poses or ideas or pinning wardrobe styles to help inspire our clients.  We recently had a post on Seniorologie about using Pinterest to show clients what to wear for their shoots and how taking it a step further by pinning certain types of wardrobes into different boards could help your seniors find just the look that fits their personality.

Today’s senior inspiration post comes from Jenn Jones of Jenn Jones Photography who says that this shoot was one of the first ones she did after utilizing Pinterest to communicate with a client about her wardrobe.

“I created a private Pinterest board for my client to pin outfits, hair styles, make-up ideas, etc.  The client loved it and I was able to make comments on her pins.  Not only could I see what she liked but I could gain insight into her personal style!” said Jenn.  “It really helped me choose our location for the shoot!”

Love this idea!  Thanks for sharing Jenn!  Check out the beautiful photos below from this senior session and be sure to check out more of Jenn’s work here.

What was your inspiration for the photo shoot?  My client was my inspiration for this shoot.  I really just wanted to capture her sweet spirit, this wonderful confidence she exudes and her amazing sense of fashion.

Where did this photo shoot take place?  We used three different locations for this shoot… a parking garage, old downtown, and then headed out to a more rural location with a rustic barn.

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?  Absolutely!  That was the fun part!
This session was the first time that I utilized Pinterest in communicating with my client about her wardrobe before the session.  I created a private Pinterest board for her to pin outfits, hair styles, make-up ideas, etc. that she liked.  The client loved it!  I was able to make comments on her pins and it really gave me insight to her personal style.  It helped me to choose our location for the shoot as well!  She was able to show the hair stylist and make-up artist the looks she pinned, so the stylist knew exactly what she wanted.  It worked wonderfully.  This is something I will be doing with all my seniors from here on out.

What camera, lens and equipment were used for this shoot?  Nikon D700, 85mm 1.4, 50mm 1.4, and my ExpoDisc.

What time of day were these taken?  We started the session around 3:00 pm and ended around 5:30 pm.

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?  I prefer to keep my editing pretty simple.  I made an action that I use on every one of my images which includes a curves layer set to soft light (reduced opacity) and another curves adjustment layer to give a matte-look.  Sweet and simple!

What is your favorite thing about this session?  We did this session in the Fall, which is my favorite time of year.  I love all the textures, colors, layers and the overall feel of thissession!

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?  This particular senior girl is very sweet, talented, and confident, which is exactly what I wanted to convey in her images.  I always want to keep mysenior sessions fresh and stylish with a girl-next-door look to them.

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?  I just try to think back to that time and age (all those years ago! hehehe) and put myself in their shoes when it comes to posing and interacting with them during the shoot.  A lot of girls at this age are very insecure when they step in front of the lens, so I compliment them A LOT and show them the back of the camera.  I want them to be confident.  I let them know they are doing an amazing job!  It really makes a difference.
