Sometimes Mother Nature forces you to rethink your original plan and sometimes the new plan turns out amazing!  That is exactly what happened in this beautiful shoot below by Jessica Coleman of Jessica Coleman Photography in Anacortes, Washington.

Jessica said, “This shoot took place in a local small town near the beach.   The tide ended up being too high to actually shoot on the beach so we used the area above the beach, which turned out to be perfect!”

What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?
I let myself be inspired by the senior I am photographying.  In this case how can you not be more inspired then by this beautiful red hair and blue eyes!  Absolutely loved this session.

Where did this photo shoot take place?
This shoot took place in a local small town and an open area near a beach.  The tide ended up being too high to shoot on the beach so we used the are above the beach, which turned out perfect!

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?
I let my seniors style themselves.  I want their personality and style to be reflected in our shoots and to be able to capture “who” they are.

What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?
Canon 5d Mark II with my 85 1.4

What time of day were these taken?
These were taken mid afternoon.

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
I use lightroom to post-process all of my photography.

What is your favorite thing about this session?
It rained the first half of the shoot but for the second half the light was amazing.  We really lucked out!  But I would have to say her hair was my favorite part of the shoot, ha ha!

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
I always hope my photography reflects my client.  I believe that that is part of the reason they choose me to capture this moment in their lives.  I love simple, reflective photography.  I want my clients to look like themselves with as little editing as possible.

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
Be yourself.  I feel this is the best way to make my clients comfortable.  Most seniors I shoot are nervous at first (this is the majority’s first time being photographed).  If I am myself and we just have fun, they break out of their shell rather quickly.
