Bringing others along on senior shoots can sometimes really help the senior feel comfortable and you can use a mom or a friend or even a boyfriend to help you make the senior life and create true emotion during the shoot.

In this beautiful shoot below photographer Kimberly Macdonald of Kimberly Macdonald Photography in Santa Rosa, California said that by having this senior’s mom and boyfriend along really helped the senior relax and have fun!

What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?
The beautiful color of fall was my inspiration behind this shoot. There is nothing quite as beautiful as California’s fall light.

Where did this photo shoot take place?
Oconnel Vineyards in Sebastopol, CA

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?
We agreed on a fall themed session in wine country but she came up with the clothing all on her own.

What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?
Canon Mark 5 D III
50 mm
85 mm
70-200mm

What time of day were these taken?
2 hours before sunset

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
NO presets were used in post processing but did have to play with the white balance quite a bit as I notice the heavy green color from the vineyards was showing up on her face

What is your favorite thing about this session?
Alexas genuine smile and the fact that she has no idea how beautiful she is.

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
I want my simple approach to senior photography to really shine. I took it to the basic level, knew my light and angles and let my seniors smile take over the camera.

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
Get to know your seniors, especially your senior reps. Know their style, their personalities, know how they want to be portrayed. The more you know them, the more they love their images.
