Senior Photographers do not always have to photography high school seniors.  Sometimes photographing college seniors can be another element to your senior photography business.

“Jordan recently graduated from Texas Tech University,” said Joshua.  “She had mentioned wanting to get photos done and I’ve been wanting to style something personal that inspires who my ideal clients are and what genre I enjoy shooting most.  We were a perfect match!”

Check out this beautiful session below and read what Joshua had to share about it.  Thanks for sharing your work with Seniorologie Joshua!

What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?
A love for the Texas desert and flowy outfits and long hair. As photographers, we shoot a lot of what our clients put together and want. It’s so revitalizing to come up with something personal and fun that I can collaborate with other creative people like Jordan.

Where did this photo shoot take place?
The Art District in downtown Lubbock, Texas and Buffalo Springs Canyon Lake.

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?

What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?
Canon 6D, Canon 50mm 1.2L

What time of day were these taken?
6pm to 9pm

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
I’m a hybrid film & digital photographer and for this session I used Mastin Labs Fuji Pro Pack through Adobe Lightroom to match true Fuji Film scans. I love the look and dreaminess of Fuji 400H and it keeps my workflow simple. You never want to “over” process your images and I’m a HUGE fan of Kirk Mastin for his genius work with these packs.

What is your favorite thing about this session?
The final outfit and last 30 minutes of shooting before sunset. Jordan wore this gorgeous headband and as I’ve always found, when the creativity starts to really move, as a team we just hit this rhythm and end up with this collection of amazing images. Great finish to a great day!

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?
The style was based on Boho Chic fashion. I’m a natural light, fine-art inspired photographer and so my joy is in finding unique locations in outdoor settings like fields, canyons, mountains, sand, etc. I love working with seniors who care as much for the creative process and details as I do. I’m hands-on so when I work with seniors they should be comfortable with our session being a collaboration; texting and sharing images or ideas is also a BIG win and way to keep each other in the loop as things progress:)

It doesn’t have to be a huge production. Simple is good too. Let’s just make something awesome!

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
Take control of your sessions. Ask questions and let them know that you want to be involved with the planning process and choices of clothing and props. Try to come up with something out of the ordinary. Dream big and bring excitement with you! Lastly, practice finding that good light.. for me, it’s that dreamy, soft evening light.
