Encouraging young women to be confident in their own skin is something a lot of photographers do.  By showing girls how beautiful they are through photos, photographers can really make a difference in how seniors see themselves.

In this beautiful session, photographer Meghann Prouse of Meghann Prouse, Indie Photographer in Washington said, “I really want to convey a sense of strength and comfortability in one’s own skin.  I think it’s really important to love who you are and I want to encourage young women to see that it’s okay to be imperfect because beauty, to me, shows even stronger through imperfections.”

senior-session-2senior-sessionWhat was your inspiration for this photo shoot?
My inspiration was Erin’s style mash-up mixed with our beautiful surroundings for the day. She loves things with a country vibe, but also rocks the modern colorful stuff just as well. She envisioned a session that would help her showcase her personality, and I loved working with her to capture it.

Where did this photo shoot take place?
Scenic Beach State Park in Seabeck, Washington.

What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?
Canon 5d Mark II
Sigma 35mm ART
Sigma 50mm ART
Canon 45mm ts-e

What time of day were these taken?
5 – 6 pm

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?
I edit in Lightroom and use presets based off of VSCO film.

What is your favorite thing about this session?
I love the beautiful, glowing light that the park and time of day offered us. Erin was easy to photograph because she’s a true natural in front of the camera — even when I asked her to get in the water for me!

I really want to convey a sense of strength and comfortability in one’s own skin. I think it’s really important to love who you are, and I want to encourage young women to see that it’s okay to be imperfect — because beauty, to me, shows even stronger through imperfections.

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?
Give yourself plenty of time for clothing changes and hair and makeup touch-ups. Also, help make them feel comfortable by being yourself.
