Typically we get submissions of photo shoots that took place during the evening “golden hour.” But this photographer loves shooting any time of the day, and she shows us that even morning shoots that last until 1 p.m. can be a beautiful time to capture a senior!

Rana of Roohi Photography shows us a sun-filled session that is full of color and lots of smiles!!  This senior looks so happy!!  Check out what Rana had to say about this session and be sure to check out more of Rana’s work here.  Thanks for sharing Rana!

What was your inspiration for the photo shoot?

For this senior photo shoot, I wanted to incorporate lots of color! I knew Rebekah loved bright, colorful scenes. So as soon as I found out which outfits she picked, I chose locations to match her style!!

Where did this photo shoot take place? The photo shoot started in St. Armand’s Circle in Sarasota and ended at the tip of Longboat Key; Once of my favorite places J

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot? Absolutely!! I send out a fun questionnaire to all my seniors. I find out their likes and hobbies, and then we both brainstorm for outfits and locations. My senior shoots are all but being who you are. What makes you YOU?

What camera, lens and equipment were used for this shoot? My go-to lens is my 50 mm 1.4. This lens is on my camera 90% of the time! I also shoot with my Canon 5d Mark II.

What time of day were these taken? I’m definitely not the traditional “early morning or late evening-light photographer.” I shoot any time of the day. This shoot started in the morning and ended around 1 p.m.

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session. I pull everything into Aperture and do basic editing there. Once I pick out my fav’s then I pull these images into Photoshop where I use Totally Rad actions to spice up the photos!!

What is your favorite thing about this session? I loved that Rebekah was open to anything and everything! It’s always wonderful to see my seniors having a blast. She openly communicated her wants and ideas, and I loved that! The session turned out exactly how’d I want it!!

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style? Senior photos are about the senior. That’s why I love sending out a questionnaire to find out everything about them. I want everyone to see that color is awesome!! Mixing bright, vibrant colors with awesome outfits results in a fun session. My senior photography style is about capturing the senior in their element. I feel like if they are comfortable doing what they love, then it’ll show in the photos.

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors? Seniors are my favorite types of sessions. My biggest tip is connection. Try and connect to what they want. As teenagers, they may feel that they are not heard or their opinion doesn’t matter (hey we were all young once!!). So listen to what they want, have fun and let them know this is about them. I feel like if I am relaxed and carefree, then they will relax a bit more. It’s all about letting go and having fun!!
