Concept shoots are great for transforming your model into something different.  They are great for thinking outside the box and doing something completely unique.  That is exactly what Shannon Hollman of Shannon Hollman Photography did with the session below.

“I took a senior girl and transformed her into a peacock-like beauty,” said Shannon.

The colors, feathers and makeup make this session really stand out!  Check it out below and be sure to read what Shannon had to say about how this shoot came together.  You can view more of Shannon’s work here.  Thanks for sharing Shannon!

What was your inspiration for this photo shoot?  peacock feathers!!  I have had the idea in my head for quite sometime about using peacock feathers in a session. I never really knew how to use them or what to do, so it just sat on the back burner. About a month or so ago, it came to me what exactly I wanted to do.

Where did this photo shoot take place?  We did this session in a garden that had lots of greenery. i wanted the colors of the feathers, dress and makeup to pop, so i tried to stick with a green background….i loved how the vines looked!

Did you collaborate with this senior to come up with the clothing and/or concept for this shoot?  I talked to some friends about my ideas and within just a few days, my vision completely came together. My dear friend Steph helped me make the dress, which was the base to the whole session.
I gave Morgan (hair), from evolve hair studio, and Kristen (makeup), from evny day spa, my vision for hair and makeup and they went above and beyond my expectations!!! It all pulled together so beautiful and I am very happy and proud with how it all turned out. Baylee was the PERFECT model.

I knew I wanted to add a different flare to it, so I also held on to some smoke bombs from the 4th of July. I used blue, green and purple ones. I just LOVE the feel of the photos that have the smoke around her or behind her!

What camera, lens or other equipment was used for this shoot?  i used the canon 5d classic, 100mm macro, 85mm and the 50mm.  no additional lights or reflectors were used.

What time of day were these taken?  we took these late afternoon when the light was beautiful. it was close to 100 degrees out, but you would never know.

Can you share any post-processing techniques used when editing this session?  I didn’t do a lot to these in post processing….just a simple contrast boost and sharpen.

What is your favorite thing about this session?  I think sessions like this are so important for the creative soul. I mainly do senior session and I love everything about them…but sometimes it’s so fun and refreshing to jump completely out of the box and stretch your mind.

We all had SO much fun putting this session together!!

What do you want this session to convey about this senior and about your senior photography style?  Although the subject isn’t what i usually take, i still feel like the pictures match my style….colorful and fun!

What is one tip you can share with other photographers regarding photographing seniors?  Keep it stress free…keep it fun! They usually come into a session super nervous. Show them just how amazingly beautiful they are!!
